After two years of faulty operation of a TRANE XL 1200 heat pump and the replacement of two major components of the system, I have requested that TRANE replace the entire unit to no avail. Their customer service rep allegedly told the air conditioning repair company's owner that because of my agressive request for help, she would never replace the entire unit. Trane yet has the audacity to tell the BBB and the North Carolina Attorney General's office that its policy for customer satisfaction is their top priority and is evident in their response to the two years of problems that I have encountered.
After dealing with this company, I would not recommend their product to anyone that is interested in a reliable product. Further, their concept of being pro consumer is a lie. They must have "Baghdad Bob" working in their customer relations department.
Their ads claiming the best warranty in the business are blatantly false. GMC (Goodman Manufacturing Co.) has a much superior warranty. The claim "nothing stops aTrane" is also misleading.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds
Your XL 1200 heat pump
AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

Dear Sir,
I am a former employee of Trane, and while I do not remember your specific case, I do believe in the product.
I, myself, have owned Trane products and have had great service out of them.
One thing that many consumers do not think about if something happens to an applied product, such as central heating and air conditioning equipment, is that there are other factors that may contribute to the failure, other than the product itself. Things such as utilities, especially if you live in an area where electrical current is not regulated well, may cause electrical components to fail. Various weather conditions, such as but not necessarily limited lightning, may also tend to cause problems. Further, proper installation/application of the product is critical to proper operation. The best product is no better than the worst if it is not applied or installed correctly.
This type of product is not something you simply plug in and turn on and it works. It takes quality equipment, proper installation by a qualified, properly licensed installer that assures refrigerant line sets, supply and return ducting are adequate to meet airflow requirements for the system, the equipment is sized properly for the structure it is being installed in, etc.
Preventive maintenace also must be performed, either by the equipment owner or by a licensed HVAC contractor, in order to keep the equipment operating as designed and help prevent pre-mature failure.
I have not worked for Trane since late 2005, and I now work for another HVAC manufacturer, but I felt after coming across your complaint that I should at least try to comment on some other issues that some folks may not think about when a failure on this type of equipment occurs. Maybe this will at least provide some food for thought before immediately blaming the equipment for the problem, which may or may not have been the root cause for your situation.
