I was flying to my next duty station. Because it happened so quickly, and no funds I had to make the travel plans myself. I flew IAD-CLT-PNS on US Airways. At IAD-CLT my luggage was broken in to. Not sure by who. They took both of my IPODS and some of my uniform items. I was bored out of my mind the first months at Pensacola, until I got another IPOD.

I called US Airways about it  7 days later, and wrote them a e-mail. No response. Finally 3 days later... I got through to their customer service center. Of course their wa a 30 minute hold, to confirm that I really was on the flight that day. They told me that there was nothing they could do about baggage that had been broken into, and had items stolen out of it. They did say some words to me though: "Airline Not Responsible but Thank you for Flying".

I lived overseas for 3 years. After flying Singapore Airlines, ANA, and Lufthansa, I'm curious how the US Carriers are still in business?

Not believeable..

First of all you put not only 1 but 2 iPods in your checked baggage.  Why did you put them in your checked bags?  Did you not have any worries about being "bored out of your mind" on the plane.

How do you know it happened on the Dullas-Charlotte leg?  And if you know that why didn't you notify them in Charlotte?  If you didn't have time why didn't you at least notify them when you arrived in Pensacola?  How come it took you an entire 7 days to contact them, and even then it was only by E-mail?

I also wonder why you appear more concerned about the iPods and not the "uniform items" that were taken.  Because depending on what they were, could people use that to try and impersonate someone in the military?  I hope you at least notified the proper authorities about the theft.

iPods in check in luggage ???

AUTHOR: Steve - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, October 30, 2010

Honestly,  it  sounds  strange to me that your  iPods were not in the carry-on  but in your checked in   luggage.  And not only 1  iPod but 2  iPods (!).

If  that was  true  probably a  screener saw  them on  the x-ray machine  and  decided to have  "a  closer look".  Probably  when he started to play with them in order to find out if they were explosive devices he fell in love with them and had to confiscate them.  i  would  never  leave  any valuables in checked luggage  and  if  it is something that really  does not  fit into my carry on usually  I  wrapp  the  suitcase  several  times with  brown  tape  so  that  I  can see immediately  if  someone cut it to open the suitcase.

I  am not a  big fan of  US Airways but they are cheap that's  why  they are still in business...   if you are cheap enough  (and now they are even cheaper than Southwest Airlines)  you can do almost  anything with a customer and he will still come back.
