We took our car a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer to Walmart for it's regular oil change and vehicle checkup.During the checkup it came to our attention that the transmission dipstick had been broken off and they could not check the fluid in the transmission.They said they did not do it and that it most likely happened the oil change before which was also at a Walmart.
At that time we were told by Barry (the service mgr) it was okay to drive the vehicle .One week later the transmission locked up and had to be towed to a transmission specialist who said the faleure was do to lack of fluid in the transmission.We feel that in fact the dipstick was broke off at the previous oil change by a walmart employee and he simply got rid of that part of the dipstick and signed off on the transmission to relieve himself of blame not telling us the the stick had been broken and unable to check the fluid.
If he would have informed us of this issue it could have been solved with out the $2900 cost for a transmission rebuild.We filed a claim with CMI (Claims Management Inc.)Phone # 888-213-7534 (we dealt with a Barb there who was rude talked down to us and even called the mechanic at the transmission shop a liar and that the transmission had to have a leakage issue and she would have to deny the claim he explained to her that there were no leaks and it was a walmart topping off issue.
When CMI received the statements from the walmart fluid checkers not mechanics (which barb at CMI called them) they had changed the statements made and told her that they never told us it was okay to drive the vehicle and did not recall placing blame on the previous Walmart oil change.We went to our Attorney's office on 2-27-09 and are in the process of suing Walmart and CMI.Please take our advice and never let Walmart fluid checkers touch your vehicle as the internet shows that they have more complaints than praises.
This will be taken to the next level and will make it a life long goal to expose Walmart Automotive.We would love to start a class action suit against Walmart and CMI.If anyone reading this has had a problem with Walmart Automotive would like to join this class action please notify us at wholesaledirect@comcast.net as we have a attorney that would love to do it.
Consequences. Describe the economic or physical damage that resulted.
Transmission cost $2900

I think your tranny guy IS misleading you. (hopefully not intentionally) fluid loss would not cause a sudden and catistrophic trans failure. It would have cause shifting and temp problems much sooner. Hell, lose only 3 or 4 quarts and it won't shift out of 1st or reverse. Your trans died for another reason, my friend. Personally, i still wouldn't ever go to Wal-Mart for auto service. Lose Wal-Mart AND the bow tie.

I have also had an issue with wal marts auto service department before dont worry about the security cam info they cannot see under the hood of the car at all and they will not release the tapes even under court order unless it is part of a criminal investigation. The main thing to focus on is that the employees are not certified or trained in any thing to do with auto repair they are retail store reps who were placed in that department and have no idea what they are doing they must complete a session of online tests to get walmart certified and that is it. Yes they lie all the time on their accident reports to get out of paying who do you think knows more the mechanic who fixed your car or the wal mart tech making minimum wage? having been an ASE certified mechanic who went to work in walmarts tire lube express after some legal problems made it hard to get work else where I was shocked at the idiots who worked there in I saw two cars get totaled in a head on collision by two techs, I saw one car get driven into the grease pit (I mean all the way a toyota yaris that got turned sideways and stuck in there) I saw multiple engine fails due to a double gasket or sometimes forgetting to fill the car with oil or to put a filter on I saw two cars fall off the lifts while replacing tires and land on their rotors, I saw multiple transmissions get drained or opened by a tech assuming that it was the oil pan I was full on run over once by another tech who did not see me standing in front of a car and I saw their claims department try and deny every single one even when we all knew it was our fault. They never flat out told us to lie but there was an understanding that if you cost them a certain amount of money it was your job and let me tell you people dont end up working for wal mart because they want to its because they have no other options hell I had my drivers liscence taken away April of 07 for unpaid tickets and was told by a supervisor dont ask dont tell we need you here and I worked in their tire lube express for ten months afterword once the claim goes beyond $500 it is out of the stores hands and they must go through the insurence department of walmart and once that happens all bets are off they manipulate everything you say to them to make the company look good and never take any responsibility I never saw one claim get paid out over the $500 limit not one. I beg you people do not bring your cars there pay a little bit extra or ignore the convinence factor and take your vehicle someplace that has the ASE stickers in the window they are there for a reason and even if the tech who works on your car is not certified they have techs who are to consult on anything strange and they are not bullied into covering their own butts for the sake of their company.
