I purchased three of Wal-Mart Prepaid Visa Money Card for my children as a Christmas gift and preloaded them with $25.00 each and paid other charges for the card bring the cost for each card up to almost $34.00 each. Only to find after my children opened them and I tried to activate them did I realize what an absolute RIP OFF these cards are. In order to activate them I had to give all my personal information and was forced to apply for THREE! Visa Money cards and each card is going to cost me $4.95 a month. All I wanted was to give my children a cash gift to allow them to buy what they wanted and now I am stuck holding three Visa money cards.

I have tried to call the customer service number that they provided me when I purchased the cards and all there is an automated system and NO way to talk to a real person.

To add insult to injury after activating the cards I am now receiving text messages on my cell phone everyday for each of the three cards this amounts to 3 messages per day and at a cost of $.09 per message the cards are costing me almost $1.00 a day for these annoying reminder messages.

I am currently taking all efforts to cancel these cards and fill a formal complaint against Wal-Mart.

My family and I have been loyal customers but after this experience we are changing our shopping habits. In our area there are a lot of shopping options such as Target, Kohl's and Costco just to list a few. I believe we will be spending more time at the other stores and informing all of our friends and family about this horrible experience.

Not A Rip-Off But An Incorrect Purchase

AUTHOR: Mistie Ann - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, February 04, 2015

From what this person wrote, it seems that they are blaming Wal-Mart because they bought the wrong type of card for their needs. The description of what they wanted sounds like a gift card. What they actually purchased was a refillable debit card. This is NOT a rip-off by Wal-Mart, and I find it unfair to the company that it has not been removed. (Wal-Mart may have many faults, but they shouldn't be blamed because a consumer didn't pay attention to what they were buying!) If this person had made the correct purchase for their needs, there would have been none of the fees and such that they are complaining about. I really hope people like myself, who came across this site by accident, are given the full story instead of just the ranting complaints of one unobservant person. Thank You.

Walmart Prepaid Visa

AUTHOR: Kennedy - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 02, 2010

I love the Walmart Pre paid visa... I disagree with the above response. You don't have to give them your personal information, you don't have to pay $1 per text, you don't have to buy additional cards and you don't pay $34 for a $25 card. I use them all the time.

DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ.

If only they could lower the fees this would be and exalent program

AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 19, 2009

I have a card I was tired of late fees and lies from our local bank'
If they could only lower the fees to one dollar a month'
the issue I have is getting money of the card that is mine If I have direct deposit set up with them how am I supposed to pay my rent our landlord does not have a credit card machine.
How can I get 1000 dollars to pay my rent no cash machine gives that much?
These are serious questions that could be handled if there was a way to contact these people to ask them.
what am I supposed to do take 500 out get charged the 5 dollars and do the same thing the very next day to pay my rent'
these are issues that the card givers have not helped us the public with'
I feel if I have money sure they can have there fee for loading it but the 4 dollar or three dollar monthly fee is making me re think the whole thing.
a machine does all the transactions it' don't no your taking money what labor is there in that a person that sets at his desk and looks at the amount they get for your purchases I want his- her job'
This is our money I could see charging a monthly fee of 1 dollar for the electricity it costs to keep a record but after that I would say to please listen to us after all where all in this together.

#4 Consumer Suggestion

Unfortunately this was not a rip-off it was a mistake on your part.

AUTHOR: Pardel - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 08, 2009

From your post it is obvious you meant to buy Walmart gift cards for your children for Christmas. Unfortunately, you bought pre-paid debit/credit cards. The two are totally different. A Walmart gift card can only be used at Walmart in exchange for merchandise. The pre-paid debit/credit card can be used anywhere Mastercard/Visa is accepted. It can be reload at any Walmart or you can have your paycheck, or part of your paycheck deposited direct to the card. Once you have purchased the card it is not refundable. So sad your children missed out on their Christmas gift. Maybe if you take the cards to the Walmart where you purchased them and explain to the manager the mistake, that you meant to buy gift cards, they will swap the cards out for you. It is worth a try. Good luck!

Sounds like lazy shopping to me.

First... no one forced you to sign up for anything. You had a choice to stop the process at any point. Second, did ya read the fine print before buying a pre-paid card... a little research into a product with requires your personal information might have saved you a bit of trouble, ya think?

As for the text messages and such, have you gone back to Walmart? How about informing your cell phone company? Though I highly doubt getting somewhere on the customer service line has been as difficult as you claim... there are multiple other avenues to fix your problem.

Why not just get them a gift card?

It doesn't sound like your kids need prepaid Visa cards (which is not the same as a gift card).
