Item purchased: 80GB 8MB ATA100 7200RPM HD
Date and place of purchase: 05/29/05, Best Buy store #102.
Qualifying rebate offered: Western Digital, El Paso TX ....$30
The rebate submission was mailed , 05/31/05 by USPS Certified mail and receipt.
The signed USPS receipt was returned to me, on 06/07/05.
The $30 rebate from Western Digital has not been forthcoming as of 08/18/2005
The ONLY Western Digital response has been, 08/08/05 by Don S. of Western Digital: "The rebate fulfillment center has not recieved your rebate submission."
I have the signed receipt from the USPS and Western Digital has a copy of the receipt and signature, proof the submission was received. I have fulfilled every obligation required by me. I have met my burden of proof. It is time for Western Digital to meet their obligation and honor this rebate.

Western Digital second thoughts

Well my friends, after sending letters and proof of my claim to:
The BBB of the Southland(California), The Better Business Bureau of El Paso Texas, California State Office of the Attorney General,
Attorney General of Texas Greg Abbott, and Best Buy Stores, Western Digital emails me that the $30 rebate was mailed to me 08/16/2005 and that I should receive it within a few days. $30 rebate received 08/19/2005
Strangely, the rebate although in the correct amount, it is listed for an item I did not purchase....and the rebate came from Minnesota. Hmmm??? ........ Rebates are an open invitation to fraud. Watch yourself!
Western Digital followed with another email offering 10% discount on any WD online store purchase over $125 if I take a Customer Satisfaction Survey. Evidentally a joke, right?
BTW... the rebate (fulfillment) center in El Paso is WDs own.
WD CEO returned my letter unopened.
Holly ? with Best Buy Customer Care offered to assist me if WD did not make good. Now that's quality customer care!
Bill
P.S. Anyone want to buy some good used Western Digital Hard drives? Mine are being replaced with Seagate.

Fullfillment Center

These things normally go through a fullfillment center rather than WD themselves. I can't guarantee that's what's going on here, but i'd bet on it.
The other thing to check is that you are calling the correct center where your rebate was mailed. According to WD's site, there are three places handling rebates for them, contact information is...
The rebate coupon was mailed to El Paso, TX (866-327-8352)
The rebate coupon was mailed to Miami, FL (888-213-9919)
The rebate coupon was mailed to Memphis, TN (901-346-9941)
So, there is a real possibility that these are three different companies, and if you call the wrong one, they will have no record of you or your rebate.
Once you get the correct center, if they still say they don't have the rebate, then provide them with the copies.
