They basically tell you what you want to hear. I needed a gym with a heated pool (especially useful in an Illinois climate) They said they had one (which is not true.) Then the manager (Mel) who's a scumbag puts up the anty by saying that the day you toured the gym counts as part of your "trial" day and you don't sign up today you can't get the pricing options. I was hesitant to join as I belonged to a gym but I felt very pressured.
I noticed that the few weeks I was a member the customer service was terrible. After feeling "chilly" after a short swim I called up to inquire why they had not heated the pool. That's when I learned the truth. As you have 30 days to cancel your membership and it was approximately my 25th day I decided to opt out. I told them to cancel my membership and they said I had to send a certified letter to corporate. I told them not to charge my credit card and they said to talk to corporate. They became very agile and defensive when I decided to cancel my membership but should I expect anything less from them? Finally I got a call from the center saying my membership has been canceled. I asked for the $20 I put down as a down payment back but they wouldn't budge. I'm just happy to be back at the original club with the heated pool. It's great that the gym is open 24 hours but they lack on customer service and are very deceitful so they can make a commission off you. My suggestion is go to your local park district. It's a little less and true they are not open 24 hours you won't be dealing with these unscrupulous people,especially when you decide to cancel.
