I recently divored 08/2011, and employed Credit Score monitoring. I received notice, 09/2011, my score dropped 10%. I traced it to a Verizon Account FIOS that was, I thought. transferred to my ex-wife. On 02/08/2011, I had a 3-way call with Verizon staff and ex-wife and transferred ownership of account to her. Appears she did not pay a $115 bill before switching to another cable service in 04/2011. This $115 bill went into collection; and she did pay it in full within days of when I notified her.
Verizon has stated they will not adjust/correct my credit report via phone since the account was in my name! Verizon admits to having electronic notes that state ex-wife assumed account on 02/08/2011, but that does not matter! I feel like I am getting scr*wed here!
I sent letters to Verizon (Various Locations) asking they make a correction to my credit report and have not heard back yet; only 1 week.
Any advice? Should I sue in local court if they do not respond to my letters? Any chance I can win, considering Verizon has the electronic notes that state ownership was to be transferred on 02/08/2011. I can not attain copies of the electronic notes since they are confidential and property of Verizon a rep told me...
I really need my FICO Score to increase not decrease as I start to rebuild my life post-divorce.
Thanks in Advance for any comments!!!!

But as to who you sue really depends on several things.
First of all what exactly do these "notes" say? Unless your Ex actually signed an agreement it may be hard to say that Verizon actually agreed to what you think they did. For example if the notes say "Mrs. X will be paying the bill so send all bills to her address" that is different than "Mrs. X takes over full financial responsibility and Mr. X is no longer financially responsible as of n date." Generally with the later a company won't do this over the phone without something in writing. Another indication as to if you were really off of the account or not is when the bills came to her house was it her name or your name on the account?
But because the notes are "internal" notes it would pretty much take a court order to get the notes. The only way you are going to get this is by filing a suit. While you may have a valid suit against Verizon it may take you filing suit to even find out for sure.
So you may want to try a simpler way out. Since this is already paid try sending a dispute to the actual Credit Reporting Agencies. Quite often(but not always) if a Collection Account is paid a Collection Agency won't respond to the dispute. If they don't respond the Credit Reporting Agency will remove the listing, which in the end is really what you want.

I'm not sure if this will help, but have you tried disputing it with the credit bureaus? In your dispute you should mention that Verizon has notes indicating your ex-wife's assumption of the debt. Maybe that will carry some weight because Verizon will have to prove the debt was yours, not hers.
