Walmart is always working a scam it seems. Yesterday (April 12th 2009) I pulled my vehicle into a Walmart looking for some rear tires. The lady that was doing the selling kept trying to push "road hazard" coverage but could not tell me exactly what road hazard coverage was nor could she provide me with any literature that described what exactly "road hazard" coverage was. I asked her on several occasions if the tires were pro-rated for wear and she acted as if she did not know what I was talking about and insisted that I needed road hazard coverage to be covered.
I asked this same question of 2 other employees in the auto department and got the same propaganda about the need to buy road hazard insurance. I paid my inflated bill and noticed that the road hazard warranty was printed on the back of the receipt. This was the first time that I was able to see it and it had nothing to do with the pro-rated mileage warranty.
I also noticed that there was nothing on the bill about the mileage warranty for the tires. I demanded that they provide this information or take the tires back. All of a sudden she understood what I was talking about, pulled up the warranty information on her register and printed the information out for me.
Also on the bill and not mentioned ahead of time were a $15 a tire mounting charge and a $3 a tire disposal fee. I don't know about you but I believe in being told what something is going to cost ahead of time NOT after. If I had known I was going to be charged $3 to dispose of a perfectly good tire I would have kept it or sold it to someone.
The bottom line is that Walmart is in the business of outright lieing about their road hazard warranty in order to steal from their customers. That is OK though, there are 2 sets of rules about stealing. It's OK for big companies to do it but they whine and want the book thrown at any of the little people that steal from them.
It's time to fight back a little people. The next time that the person at the exit door wants to see your receipt and hence steal some of your time without compensating you for it. Walk on by and politely tell
them "no thank you". If they dare to detain you in any manner then you can sue them for illegal detainment in a civil court if not pressing criminal charges against the person that detained you.

This information does no one any good, when they are talking to the clueless employees.
Nor does it reinburse the thousands that are duped with this questionable bussiness practice.

Yes, Walmart will rip you off with this. I was in the Fort Payne Alabama store a few days ago to get tires replaced, under their warranty and When i got my bill they had added on a $20.00 charge, i asked the Manager what the charge was, he said it was a Roadside Hazard Warranty. I asked why i was being charged this, he just stammered and then said "Well if you don't want it, i guess i can take it off".. i told hin i never asked for it, was not told aboiut it, that it just "showed up" on my bill and to take it off.. It's bad enough Walmart bent the rim on one of my tires and knocked the car out of alignment and lied about it. Then they go and put a brand new tire on a bent rim, which i bought a new rim to replace the bent one, yet they still put the tire on my old bent rim, threw away my new rim, ruined a brand new set of tires, then want to charge me for their Rip Off Roadside Hazard Crap!!? BEWARE Walmart will add this charge onto you bill without asking you if you want it. it costs $10.00 per tire..

Road Hazard protects your tires against just that; a road hazard. This should give you free flat repairs and lifetime balancing and rotation at any WalMart. In most cases of a large national chain this is a good deal. I don't purchase tires at WalMart, but I do get Road Hazard warranties whne I buy because if you get one unrepairable flat it usually pays for itself.
The mileage warranty (treadlife) is completely different. This is actually a prorated manufacturer warranty, not a WalMart warranty. A word of advice on this, make sure you keep reciepts of your balance and rotations and alignments, and make sure they are done when they need to be as well as having the tire pressures checked and corrected. These are the biggest contributors to tire wear in the industry. The treadwear warranty does not protect against neglect, so keep your reciepts! The disposal fee is a state law in most states, they have to charge for that in most cases unless you specifically request the tires back.
Joe, it sounds like you found alot of suprises on your bill after you paid it. The problem is that you agreed to a service without knowing what the service entailed, what the break down was for pricing or maybe even what the final pricing was. Ultimately, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to know what you are paying for. If the employees you are working with are unknowlegable about their product then find someone who is, and if you can't find someone who is, you can choose to pass on it altogether. You signed on the dotted line without knowing what you were getting or what you were being charged for. That is not their fault!
