Hello all,
If I can impart any advice to all of you users here on RipOff Report, DO NOT BUY AN IPHONE. No matter how pretty it is, how well Apple's sold you on it, how "cool" it'll make you look, DO NOT BUY ONE, or any other Apple product for that matter. Here is my story, take it as you may, but hopefully you'll heed this advice and spare yourself the time and money.
On October 30, 2008, I walked into my neighborhood AT&T store, and bought an iPhone. This was an ordeal in itself, as it took nearly 2 hours for the whole process to be complete, through no fault of AT&T's. Apple requires that the order entry at AT&T stores be done through a "special" program, which aborted of its own accord multiple times throughout the process, causing the rep I was working with to have to start over (it froze his computer twice as well). He apologized profusely, but it was not his fault. Obviously, this was an Apple-created program, if Apple is the only electronic device provider to AT&T that's forcing this program upon them. This should have been a MAJOR red flag to me, but I continued on with my purchase.
I left the store happy to have an iPhone. I had wanted one for quite some time, so I was excited. I downloaded a few apps and songs, and was a happy camper....FOR A WEEK. About a week later, I had issues with the screen freezing. It would freeze for 2-3 minutes and then resume normal function. I didn't think much of it. Later that week, I had plugged my phone in overnight to charge, and when I woke up, it showed LESS charge on the phone then when I had plugged it in. Thinking it was an issue with the wall socket, I plugged it in elsewhere in my house while I got ready for work. Checked the phone, less charge still. I thought it was a charger issue, but on my way to work, the battery indicator shot up to full. Yay, my phone charged, but likely there is an electrical issue within the phone. And, to set the record straight, I've treated this phone like a newborn baby, haven't put it anywhere where it could get wet or thrown around. So this has to be an electrical issue that occurred during manufacturing.
That same week, I also started having issues with dropped calls and inability to send texts. I know, someone from Apple is going to say "oh, you didn't have service". Well, YOUR PHONE showed AT&T 3G connection at each time. I could check my G-mail (totally unnecessary 95% of the time), but couldn't place an important phone call. So, either your phone is faulty, orrrrrr your phone is faulty. You be the judge. Anyway, if I try to send a text, no matter the amount of "bars" I have, if it's over 2 lines long, it doesn't go through. Thus, I need to send multiple texts to get my point across, therefore using more of my allotted text messages. Real sneaky...nice job, Apple.
The final straw came this morning. I plugged in my phone overnight, woke to a full charge. Great. However, during my 1 hour trip from home to work (work in downtown Chicago, live in Naperville (a suburb), go on Google maps to double check if you'd like), my phone went from fully charged to DEAD...I'm talking NO BATTERY life whatsoever. I didn't even GET TO MY OFFICE...I was still on the train coming into the city. I understand battery life issues with any phone, but after 3 weeks?!?!?! You've gotta be kidding me.
I will be returning my iPhone to the AT&T store where I bought it (less than a month ago) today, and will be purchasing a BlackBerry, as they seem to know how to actually build phones to last more than a month. I used to be a BIG Apple fan, owning several iPods over the past 10 years, not really recognizing how short of a life span they had, due to the fact that they weren't devices that I used daily, and I was "up on the times", buying a new iPod when it came out. Now that this phone has opened my eyes to the faulty manufacturing of Apple products, they have lost my business forever, and I will be sure to tell anyone and everyone I know to go with another company's product, whether it be RIM, or Motorola (who I have issues with but at least they can build a phone correctly), or on the computer side, IBM/Lenovo, or Compaq, or HP.
In closing, my final words to you: DO NOT BUY THE IPHONE OR ANY OTHER APPLE PRODUCTS. You will thank me when your time and money has been spared.
