Last month for the first time ever, I forgot to mail out my payment. Usually I send it early with the lead time needed to have it arrive on time. I went online on the due date to make the payment, but it was now just past midnight, making the payment late.

I anticipated this might result in a "late fee" and figured that was the reminder I needed to not miss the date again. I was shocked however when my next bill arrived.

My interest rate went up to 29.72% from 10%. A ridiculous interest rate anyway, but one day late?? I had spoken with friends and family about this card and my satisfaction, that I will immediately remedy. This card awaits
It's this total disregard for customers that is simply going to add to the economic woes people are already struggling with. AT&T apparently stands for Always Takes and Takes... I'm disgusted and WILL be paying this off and dumping it. Saying this was a "ripoff" barely describes h

At&T Universal Card was bought out by CitiBank in 1998. your beef is with CitiBank. Universal Card Services hasn't existed for 10 years.

Same thing happened to me ...Although mine was payment was short by $6

I agree with you I think it is a disgrace what these large companies are allowed to do..I have my payment set up on the computer and my bill was running $100.00 or so a month I was not putting anything on the card Imagine My surprise when I found out I was late on the payment ...I went to my computer and said how can this be i pay it the same time always ...Well they had raised My Min..to $206.00 Just over what I had been paying for month and of course it made my payment late..

So I thought I will fix them so I went to pay it off $5300.00 and I sent it by accident to AT&T (Phone) out of my electronic transfer... It has taken me 53 days to get that back all the while I am paying the 30% Interest...See My Ripoff Report "AT&T will not repay my money back" It is bad dude...I think some of these practices should be Investigated into. I feel they are unfair to the American Public... That is my Feelings..

Hope you get it taken care of ...Contact the atty Gen and have them Investigated into ..Or has anyone thought of a class action suite against these big guys? Is it Possible?

Thanks
MWD

Not just AT&T.

You were hit by the "default" rate. Just about every credit card does the exact same thing. This is why you must be very careful to never forget to make any payments and never even get close to your credit limits. The good news(if you can call it that), is that if this is your first time being late you may be able to get them to remove the late fee, and possibly(but don't count on it) put you back down to the regular rate.

You also have to be careful of "Universal Default". Not as many credit card companies have this clause. But this is where a credit card will raise your rate because of a negative item on your credit report from a different credit card. So if instead of being 1 day late you were 31 days late, you could expect that your other credit cards would do the same thing, even though you were not late with them.

I am not saying this is right, just that it is legal for them to do and is in the Terms of the credit card.
