I purchased a home in July and scheduled my move for September 6, 2008. I found Elite Moving and Storage through an internet search for quotes from several moving companies. The quotes I received were within a few hundred dollars of each other. Elite was the most reasonable at $330.00. I confirmed my quote and date of my move with Casey Stryker.

The movers where to arrive at my home at 11:00 am. My dogs had an appointment at the groomers at 8:30 that day and when I returned home at 9:00 I was surprised to see a moving truck on the main street in front of my home. When I got out of my car I walked up to the two men and explained the entrance to my apt was in the rear and that there was a large parking lot for them to position their truck in such a way as to make it easier for them to pack the truck with my belongings. The man who was the driver (neither of them gave me their names) said he could not drive the truck to the rear of the apt building due to the low hanging wires. (it should be noted that the size of the truck that was sent was one that is used for cross-country moves, I was moving out of a two bedroom apt, not a 4 bedroom home)

As the two men took stock of my furniture and boxes they seemed confused. The one man made the statement he was tired and had already worked over 40 hours that week and packing the truck with my things would be a 'pain' and take forever.

The driver made a call to Casey Stryker explaining the situation with the height of the truck and that in order to move my things the cost would be in excess of $1,000.00 (the quote was $330.00) the driver then handed me the phone and I spoke with Casey, she apologized for the oversized truck and explained Elite was moving a another company that day and all of the regular size trucks were being used for that move. I explained to her I had no intention of paying over $1,000.00 for a move, which she seemed to understand. She said she would return my deposit and again she apologized.

It should be noted that I called another company that day, they sent two very nice men who were able to move all of my things, at a cost of $440.00.
It has been over a month since this happened. I have emailed Ms. Stryker 5 times, emailed their office twice and left 4 phone messages asking for the return of my deposit or the return of my phone call.

Yesterday I was finally able to speak with a person at Elite about my deposit, after being put on hold for several minutes, the person told me I would not be getting my deposit back, since I refused to have them move me. He told me to speak to Cory Short if I had any questions. I left a message for Mr. Short, but as with the several other attempts made to this company he has not returned my call.

This company is one of the most unprofessional companies I have ever dealt with, if quoting a price for a move at $330.00 and then showing up to do the job and raising the price to an excess of $1,000.00 is not the sign of a bad business I don't know what is. I am filing a claim with the courts for the return of my deposit and writing this warning in the hopes that others will not be taken by this company.

What actually happened the day of Ms. Tina Vail's move.

AUTHOR: Cjs - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 22, 2008

We arrived at Ms. Tina Vail's home to do the move. We sent 2 men and a 26 foot truck. This is the normal size of all of our trucks. The truck was unable to be backed up into the driveway because of electrical wires that were too low. She also said that we were not the only moving company who couldn't back their truck up. Because of this it would have taken the crew much longer to do the job. It would been a long carry. They were making sure she was aware of this. If I would have been aware of this issue, I would've sent a consultant out to the home to do an on site estimate. Ms. Vail called our crew many of names and made a racial slur to one of our men. We did not refuse to do the job. She didn't want to pay anything more than the $330.00. She also told me that she had contacted Two Men and a Truck after we left the home. They were also unable to back the truck down the drive. They too quoted her close to $1,000 so she sent them away as well. We kept the $50 deposit because it is the travel fee. We made the trip to do the move and she refused to let us do the job. Thank You for your time.
