After reading other rip-off report complaints about Evans Glass I felt very compelled to share my own experience with said company in the hope that I can protect other consumers.

After having received quotes from several companies, including Evans Glass, I was originally planning to have Washington Energy Services install replacement vinyl framed windows in my house. But a lady from Evans Glass kept calling/pestering me as to why I didn't want to use their services. I finally succumbed to her pestering and allowed a "Commercial Sales Rep" to come out and basically write a new quote for about 5K less than the original. Now, three years later all I can say is that I would have gladly paid more to have Washington Energy Services do the work because at least they would have done the job right and installed windows with a proper nailing flange/fin.

Where to begin? Firstly, the Evans Glass installation crew looked like a group of guys collected from 1st Avenue...unshaven, smoking, poorly dressed, lots of foul language...you get the picture. The original aluminum windows in my house were installed with nails and construction adhesive making them difficult to remove. So the installation crew cut them out, leaving the aluminum flange in the house frame. The problem with this was that around several windows, they left a gap of almost one and one-half inches wide. And with no nailing flange on the new windows I now have a great big gap between the window frame and the house siding that is filled with nothing but caulk. Now, barely three years after the installation the caulk has separated from the window frames leaving huge gaps for water intrusion when the winter storms hit.

I'm having large portions of my house remodeled next month. The remodel contractor took one look at my windows and asked what amateur hacked up my house? He said the installation may not even be up to current building codes. He's working up a quote to fix the problems and I've got a good mind to sue Evans Glass for the cost of the fix; I won't let Evans fix the problem because their solution is to just apply more caulk which will crack and separate within a few years anyway.

Bottom line....DO NOT let Evans Glass talk you into their "Retrofit" solution. You will be VERY unhappy with the result.

A Full Retraction to My Original Report

I am writing to make a full retraction of my original derogatory statements regarding Evans Glass and the install they originally performed on my house. I am making this retraction because Matt Flath, the general manager at Evans Glass, after reading my comments online, reached out to me in order to try and solve the stated issues.

He personally drove out to my house, inspected the install and agreed there were serious problems that required attention and was more than willing to go the extra mile and make things right. He also apologized for the unpleasant customer service I had received, assuring me it would never happen again. I really appreciate the effort he made and the level of customer service I received and I believe Matt should be commended for this. In summary, here are the items Matt's install team did, at no cost to me, to fix the problems:

1. Around every window they cut back the damaged siding, removed the old caulk and installed a decorative brick molding, sealing with vycor and new caulk as necessary.
2. Replaced all of my old decorative shutters with new ones sized to fit the brick molding trim.
3. Replaced my old single pane garage window.

I am extremely pleased and happy with this additional work as it was done with great care and detail and now my house looks absolutely spectacular. Matt's install team (Shaun and Chris) deserve a lot of credit for the nice work they performed. Because of this, I am happy to recommend Evans Glass and give them a 5 star rating.

Pictures are worth many words

I believe it is time to post some photos of the terrible window installation, to which I alluded in my original post, performed by Evans Glass. I am sending the photos to RipOffReport and they should appear on this site in a few days. In these pictures you will see:

1. Large caulk-filled gaps
2. Caulk separating from the window frame-great for water intrusion
3. Saw cuts left in the siding

Remember this: Evans Glass installs windows with no nailing flange. So when the caulk separates from the window frame there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to prevent water intrusion. It is also worth noting that because there is such a large gap between the rough opening and the window frame, it would take a home burgalar all of 10 seconds to shove a pry-bar in that gap and rip the window right out of the rough opening. They are only held in place by 4 or 5 tiny screws.

Hopefully these pictures will really help protect other unsuspecting consumers from this horrible company called Evans Glass.

In 2006, I had Evan's Glass put all new eurocraft windows in my house. The sales representative that sold me the windows was extremely charming and knowledgeable. The whole experience from start to finish was wonderful. I noticed right away that the noise level in my home was greatly reduced and there was no more draft from windows or sliding door.

I found all of the people I dealt with through out the company to be very helpful and to there word, they called when they said and returned calls promptly. I will highly recommend Evans Glass and Eurocraft windows to anyone that is thinking about making this kind of investment in there home.

Update: Evans Glass has NOT taken responsibility for their lousy install

I am actually writing to respond to the rebuttal, written by CP of Renton, to my original report.

Firstly, Evans Glass has NOT taken responsibility for the poor and shoddy window installation in my house. They have not paid for repairs, made repairs or taken any other action. My house still has large caulk-filled gaps between window frames and house siding. In fact, now that I am well into my home remodel, I have removed the interior trim work (window liners and casings) and I can see lots of daylight between the window frames and wall studs.

That isn't good; at all. I am not really sure why C.P. believes or thinks that my situation has been rectified, it hasn't.

Secondly, C.P.'s response is very confusing, probably due mostly to the numerous spelling and grammatical errors strewn throughout his/her response. If Evans Glass cannot even hire people who have a basic command of the English language, can we really trust them to hire people who know how to correctly install windows and take pride in their work?

Evans Glass finally took responsibility

The install was very shotty, and very sloppy. Evans glass did rectify the issue. Our installers, our sales reps, and our telephone representatives have all been dealt with accordingly. As an employee of Evans, I can understand what these reports are saying. Also as an employee, I did not used to beleive in this company. As managerial transitions and also personell changes have been made, I do now. Every business has a sales pitch and astory, otherwise they would not be a business, but, Evans Glass truly is trying.
Customer satisfaction is very important to us there.

As a small business, that is stretching and growing, the company does need to improve in several areas. These are all being taken care of. As an employee there, i can see that. This is a privately owned company, and things are changing for the better. I see those changes happening daily.

As for cutomers with install problems, we will take care of you. Unfortunately at this time it is a timely process, I understand your frustration, I really do. I would be upset if it was my home also, when this report was filed here, we were in the process of scheduling and paying for these repairs to be made. We were in contact with the homeowner and to the knowledge of Evans Glass, we have rectified the issues of our installation.
