Hair Salon: The stylist relaxed my hair she used a rat tail comb to comb my hair which should have been a red flag I lost way too much hair in the comb from just combing. She applied the relaxer and used the same small tooth comb yet pulling and damaging more hair. Once completed with the entire process my hair was still textured and not relaxed. She used a flat iron to pull my hair straight, when I told her my hair was not straight. She goes by the name of Tonnie (A M ) her manager Sarah a caucasian with no knowledge of black hair wants to inspect my hair . For what? She can only do caucasian hair. So now my hair is dry, brittle, damaged and falling out. I called before hand to get pricing because they do change and you won't be told. I called a week before and was quoted a price only to find out the price was up by $15.00 whe the service was rendered.

The same day the nail tech Helen was to give me a manicure for $17.50, okay. The nail fill is $27.00 she took it upon herself to do a buff, file and fill 3 nail and charged me $20.00, for $7.00 more she should have just filled all the nails and not ripped me off. I did not get a manicure but paid for some bull #%@*. She should advise the client if she is not doing the service requested and the cost.

JC PEnney is a big rip off and the services provided are not equal to the money charged. You pay more to have problems fixed that they caused. I am now seeking treatment for my hair. The stylisit offered to use flat irons to straighten my hair. I paid for a relaxer instead I received dry, textured and falling hair. I must keep excessive oil to control the damage for non straight hair. I will need to purchase a wig to wear while my hir is healing.

I paid for quality service, relaxed hair, straight, soft, shine and managable. Instead I received bry, brittle, damaged and vreaking hair.

In 1990 J C Penny in another area here took my hair out in 24 hours I had a zip lock bag full of hair. Maybe this name salon shold be a red flag for me.

This was the last time for me.

I am Sorry you had a bad experience

I am not contradicting your experience.  However, I would be remised if I did not mention my experience with Tonnie.   I was looking for something else and came upon your complaint. I know this response is late and the issue long resolved but I just have to comment.


I have been going to Tonnie for 10+years now.  I even followed her to Mentor, Ohio when she changed shops (this is a 50 mile round trip for me).  I had never had a relaxer prior to going to Tonnie, just a press and curl.  I was always concerned with chemicals taking my hair out.  After about a year or so of her braiding my hair and pressing/flat ironing it, I decided to take the plunge and get a relaxer.  I have not looked back since.  The ONLY time I had hair breakage was when I stopped going to her for a while due to financial constraints.  When I started going back to her, her first order of business was to get my hair healthy, again which is exactly what she did.  The result: my hair has never been this long before in my adult life.


Before anything, Tonnie is concerned with the health of my hair.  I have requested services, (i.e. hair color, braids too soon after relaxers, etc, which she has simply flat out refused to do because it could damage my hair.  One of her favorite phrases is, all money aint good money.  Translation, just because she is being paid for it does not mean it is in my best interest.  Another phrase of hers is, You will never leave my chair lookin crazy saying, Tonnie did my hair!


I am so sorry you had a bad experience.  I cannot speak to your experience.  It was what it was.  I can just say that I have had nothing but a positive experience with Tonnie.

Assistant Manager; Shondra Renee called me 2/15/08 after reading my complaint she made an offer to satisfy me the customer.

The issue has been resolved and I can move on from here. My best to the sylist and nail tech mentioned in my complaint.

Ms. Renee did what the store manager and salon manager should have done when I spoke with them last week 2/9/08 after the fact.
