I tried to do an even exchange for a couple pairs of pants at Kohl's today. I dealt solely with the Store Manager Danielle of store 1390. She refused to do an even exchange despite the pants were identical, identical price, I had the tags and receipts for both pairs. Danielle continuously repeated it was not a manufacturer defect so she could not perform the even exchange. I then requested a refund, again was denied with the same line of it's not a manufacturer defect. I calmly explained Kohl's hassle free return policy to her as I understand it and pointed it out as it very clearly states on the back of the receipt for a hassle free return policy for any reason, no questions asked. She refused to budge. I requested to speak to her boss and she gave me her District Manager Vicki's phone number. I called Vicki within a couple of minutes of leaving the store and left her a voice mail at 10:27 a.m. on 6/17/2016. I have not heard back from Kohl's whatsoever. I simply wanted to exchange a couple pairs of pants, instead I was harassed and made to feel like a second class citizen trying to scam the system. It's their policy and as I explained to Danielle the only reason I shop at Kohl's and pay the higher prices is because of their hassle free return policy.

Following their policy

I'll try to answer as many questions as I can recall you asking in your rebuttal. This is my first time using ripoff report. As far as the district manager returning my call, I agree with you. I'm sure they're busy and don't expect to hear back from her for at least a few days. As far as "scamming " their system, it's their policy. This is their business model, their higher prices support their policy. You are correct, I have exchanged several items in the past. Usually shoes and pants. This is the only store I do this with as they are the only store I'm aware with the great return policy. As I stated in my original post, their return policy is the sole reason I shop at Kohl's. I can get all of exact same items elsewhere and at a lower price, why else would someone pay $60 for a pair of Chucks I can get at the mall for $30- $35? The pants were 6 and 8 months old, l did exclusively deal with the Store Manager, she was working the register in the returns section. I don't know if they were shorthand, or what. Not attacking you or trying to pass judgment but if you personally do not want to do an even exchange for items you purchase, that's fine. In my world it makes economical sense to do this and use the policy Kohl's has set forth. If they want to amend their policy to reflect only manufacturer defect, that's their decision and consumers will make their decisions too if they would like to continue to shop there. I was told by one of their associates 2 or 3 years ago when I was making a return for a wrong item of exactly how this works. Their policy is as long as you have the original packaging and tags you can return any item(s) for an even exchange or refund. The management knows most people are too lazy and or too unorganized to do this, thus the massive profit they make on their products remains in their profit margin and does not go towards covering their return policy. It's a great business model and works well in America. Hope this clears up any questions you may have and please feel free to make another rebuttal. In the end, Kohl's remains to have a hassle free return policy for any item for any reason. It's their policy and are free to change it whenever they want. I will continue to honor their policy by playing by their rules.

Seems to be missing a few things..

It is very interesting on how you left out what are probably a few key details.

You left out exactly how long ago did you purchase the pants.  You also had a very interesting choice of words where you stated you still had the tags...not that the tags were attached, but you still had them.  So had these pants been worn?

How did you end up dealing "exclusively" with the store manager?  Perhaps this store manager is different but I can't recall ever being rung up or assisted by a store manager without me having to ask for them.

Now, I understand the "technicality" of what you think their policy states.  But there is a point and time when it does go from an "honest" exchange and reason to trying to "scam" a company and take advantage of the system and basically get free clothes for life.

I am not saying this is you.  Just that people who basically try to exchange clothes under these policies that have worn out or did something like become faded under normal wear and tear are the primary reason that stores have had to get strict on returns and exchanges.  So if this store stops this policy one day, the people that are the true scammers can be content in knowing that they were the reason that it was ruined for the rest of us.

With that, it sounds like this also may not have been the first exchange you have done under this policy so your history may be coming into play here as well.

As for the District Manager.  Don't you think not even giving them a full business day to respond to you is a bit unfair?   You called the DM on a Friday at 10:30AM and wrote a RipOff report not even 24 hours later on a Saturday.   So for all you know she will agree with you...are you going to update the report if they do?
