Based on my experience with the Laguna Bay Spa we purchased I am sorry I bought a Laguna Bay Spa.  Our Spa arrived in November 2011.  It is April 2012 and the spa is still running fine.  However, i did my own installation and I am much more then handy with tools, mechanics and electrical wiring and components. My comment concerns what I consider serious design and assembly faults that I feel simply reflect a complete disregard for doing things right.  My biggest irritation is with the skin on the spa.  it is a tempered plastic bead board 1/4" thick.  Its a fine material, but it does not seem to take glue or adhesives.  As a bead board, the sides of the spa are made up of 6" wide sections of bead board back stapled to two strips of 3/8" plywood.  Because it is back stapled to the plywood perhaps 3/16" or even only 1/8" of each staple bite into the tempered bead board.  My point is that there is very little holding the skin on the Spa.  My next irritation concerns how the skin was assembled around the spa.  Basically the 4 sides and 4 corner caps were stacked around the spa and probably pulled tight with two 35' strap clamps.  then just as quickly as the panels could be banged and slapped into position they were screwed in place.  No problem if you never have to take a panel off - a nightmare if you do - truly.  And you do have to remove a panel regularly. In slang the skins are slapped on.  My next headache is with the control box access.  An access hole is provided for #8 or#6 wire (depending on the wire configuration).  This is really big stiff stuff.  The access hole put the wires right on top of the power terminal strip, which left no way to make the bends in #8 wire let alone #6.  Lastly, the terminal strip was a light electronics strip meant to take no more then 14 gauge wire.  making this work was a nightmare.   Not as big a headache is the fact that the control box was just too small.  Based on these headaches I am troubled about the spa's quality.

A year later and another headache.

AUTHOR: Chaz - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, January 12, 2013

Our spa was running for a barely a year when the heater burnt out.  Laguna Bay was helpful and promptly shipped out a replacement heater.  I installed the heater and found I had another problem.  We ordered our spa with a Prozonator installed by Laguna Bay.  I found the Prozonator, which converts salt to chlorine, was not working.  I called Laguna Bay and they admitted they knew very little about it and could not help me, and that it was not covered by their warranty.  I contacted Prozonator.  They were very helpful.  They said it sounded like the bulb was burnt out and they would replace and service the unit under their warranty.  They advised that I should check how the factory wired the Prozonator into the spa circuit.  Some manufacturers were incorrectly wiring their unit to a power source that powered the unit continuously.  If wired correctly the Prozonator would only be powered when the pump was on. I checked as Prozonator advised and found that Laguna Bay had indeed wired the unit so it was powered 24/7.

All the people I have spoken to at Laguna Bay have been helpful, even when they did not know what to advise concerning the Prozonator, they did say something like, "I guess you have to go to the people who made it."  I asked if they had a phone number, and their reply was they did not.  In any case, they guessed at the right answer.  And they did pass on one more bit of wisdom, "I guess that salt is tough on our heaters."

At this point I could use a new front panel for my spa because I have had to take it off and on so many times that it looks like crap.  That's not due to my workmanship. I build fine furniture, musical instruments and kayaks.  Its just that their assembly system was never designed to provide for removing and installing a panel.  Certainly nice that they have made some improvements now.

Best tub I've ever own

AUTHOR: Arnold Taylor - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, January 12, 2013

I purchased the X-12 to install on my back deck under an awning. Purchasing was easy and even though I had an issue with my credit card, I easily spoke with customer service and they resolved the issue. Shipping was free, which I liked, as well as the complimentary cover that came, too.

When the product arrived, I easily installed and set it up in my backyard. I had no trouble whatsoever, as the instructions were clear and concise. Within only a few hours I was able to fill the tub with water and begin heating it up - which brings me to another point: it stays warm.

The panels are easily accessible, as opposed to what was said in the original report. I have had no issues with the spa's quality and would easily recommend this model or any other model from Laguna Bay Spas to friends. I am still impressed with the professional level of service and the sheer quality of their products.

Update to Complaint

AUTHOR: Randy - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, May 18, 2012

In February 2012, Laguna Bay updated its control packs to address the consumer complaints on the installation process. We also updated our complete outer assembly of PS Skirting to further be more user friendly in removing and replacing the sides of the spa. We are always listening to our consumers and making constant improvements to make our spas the most energy efficient, reliable, and user friendly on the market.
