American Home Shield AHS Left In the Cold Memphis, Tennessee

After 9 years of paying for their Residential Home Warranty services American Home Shield refused to honor their warranty when I needed it most.  My heating unit failed durning a cold day last week and I called in for service and they sent out one of their contractors A US Air Conditioning of Texas to do the repair.  They sent some joker who did not have a clue about what was wrong with the unit and all he could come up with is that the unit was over taxed due to a mis matched coil and condenser unit.  He collected his $75 service fee and said he would check back in with AHS to see what they wanted to do.  AHS called and said that they were refusing to cover me because my Coil and Condenser Units were mismatched.  I could not believe it.  I had been paying them for 9 years to cover these units and they had responded to other calls in the past on the same units using the same contractor 5 times.  I asked why they were now refusing to take care of me.  I told them i thought they were a scam and they offered to send out another contractor for a second opinion.  Finally, two days later the second contractor comes out and they go up in the attic and mess around and then leave without a word.  2 days later I am still trying to find out what is going on and no response from AHS.  I was without heat in 30 degree weather for 5 days so i called another contractor to see if they could fix it.  Plano Air Conditioning sent out a tech and he figured out that a wire in my thermostat was they issue and he fixed me up.  He also said that there was no mis match issue and that AHS has a bad reputation for using sub par contractors (bottom feeders) who will say and do anything to make sure AHS does not get stuck with a high cost repair bill.   Finally I get a call from the second contractor telling me that the units are not mis matched but that my Thermostat is not designed to work with my type of 2 fuels system.  Really!!! My gosh these guys have no shame.   I told him that I had called a real AC contractor to fix me and that it was a wiring issue on the thermostat.  Meanwhile I still have not heard from AHS.  I called tonight to cancel my coverage because I now know their game.   I also filed with BBB so we will see if they do anything.  Bottom line is that AHS is a scam and they will only take care of the low cost service items but when they get exposed they will do anything and their contractors will help them do anything to not be exposed.   Don't waste your money because more than likely you too will be left in the cold.
