AT&T, in their bid to merge with BELLSOUTH made an agreement with the FCC to offer $10 DSL to subscribers in the Bellsouth area who had not previously had AT&T or Bellsouth DSL before.

The $10 AT&T DSL is a great deal. I signed up for it last summer and have been enjoying $10 DSL since.

But to make it even better, AT&T sent me a great offer(?) in the mail this week.

I can increase my speed by "up to 2X your internet speed without paying 2X more"

If I sign up for this great new offer, my cost goes from only $10 a month to only $32.95 a month. What a deal. I can get UP TO 2X the speed, and NOT pay 2X more. I only have to pay 3.295X more. What a deal!!!

So what's the ripoff?

I have Embarg DSL and they have a similar speed tier plan. I would imagine other companies do also. How is it a ripoff? If you or I want faster DSL, it is explained clearly that we have to pay for it. I choose not to myself.

My Experience

ANYTIME a corporation tries to give you a "better deal", they're really trying to get you OUT of the old deal and really screw you with the new deal. sprint has been trying to get my wife and I out of our old contract and into a new and "better" deal for years. We get 4000 unlimited minutes between the two of us, two phones, for $59. They keep calling us and telling us how much better the "new deals" are, BUT the "new deals" have a whole bunch of restrictions on them which the old one doesn't. IF you were happy with the old deal, you should have stuck with it. I had a gym contract for $6 a month that I had for 20 years.. They offered me a better deal. I got three years free. Now I'm paying $29.95. I should have stuck with the old contract. These companies hate those old introductory deals and try and get everyone out of them. They could care less if they lie to the customer and lose them cause they're not making any money off those old deals anyway.
