I have a been a loyal BB&T customer for about 15 years. I religiously use there online bill pay. Sometime during the month of Aug 2008, they basically changed from drafting what boils down to a money order, to drafting actuall checks. The problem is that they transitioned this changed during the middle of the month and never informed there clients.

As always, I went online to check to status of my reoccuring automatic bank drafts, and there were not there. The money was not deducted from my account as well.

Thinking that there was an issue with the system, I redrafted my normal checks, so that I would not be late on any payments. About 3 days later, one of my original, reoccuring checks was delivered to the addressee. Realizing that I now have 2 duplicate payments sent out , I immediatly destroyed the payment that I was able to intercept. The second set of checks, however were both still active. Knowing that the secondpayment was issued only 3 days earlier, I called BB&T to stop payment. I was confirmed that the stop payment was in effect and it would not be honored, when cashed. I was also told that if it did clear, they would immediately reimburse me any overdraft fees inccurred due to this check

7days later, the check did clear, putting me deep in dedt with BB&T. Even though I was confirmed over the phone and set a letter to that effect. BB&T excuse was that the recipenent did not disclose the check number when cashing(???????????????????)HUH?

Also, after complaining, on the original call, that I was not notifed( as was no one else) of the online check changes, there was a disclaimer that I had to electronically sign before I was able to access my account online.
"A DAY LATE AND MANY DOLLARS SHORT!"

I am interested in hereing from anyone else who has had issue with BB&T and there practices. Don't get me started about overdraft and late fees.

Wasn't there anything in your last statement that notified you of the change?

Was there a link anywhere on their web page to describe the change?

Why didn't you call them when the auto payment didn't go out as expected before redrafting the checks? Sounds like you made an assumption (that there was an issue with the system) instead of checking it out first to find out the real problem.
