According to BB&t corporate office , "there is no difference in holding, posting and available balance in your account. Bb&t Online banking AND bb&t PHONE 24 are NOT accurate." The mess started on 8/8/13 when I clearly had $15.33 left in my checking account. Nothing pending, nothing on hold, and at midnight my payroll ckeck will be direct deposited. 8/7/13 I checked my account which had $28.65. I made 3 purchases for a total of $13.32 using checkcard. These items cleared. On 8/8/13 I made a credit card purchase online to ticketmaster for 2 different transactions which didnt post until 8/9/13 and didnt debit my account until 8/09/13 for $14.00 and $117.95 debited my acount on 8/12/13. I called customer service and she had an automated responce like she was reading off a paper. So i went to the local branch 8/12/13and was there for 1 hour. personal banker rep was very helpfull even to the point of going into 2 other offices for help with my situation. She called corporate office  and I heard her say "thats double standard"! After an hour she said she couldnt do anything today but she would call me so I waited 2 days and no call back. I called her several times and left messages. Still no return call. On 8/15/13 I went to see her and she said there was nothing she could do since they already credited me a return overdraft charge on 5/13/13 when they charged me two overdraft charges for 1 overdraft.Said "BB&T does not admit to any wrong doing but as a courtesy we will credit your account one overdraft credit once a year." I left BOA because of this and look what happened to them! I even filed two complaints with the BBB. Even they couldnt do anything! I also filed with the Federal trade commission. Havent heard from them either. Anybody got any advice as to how I can get my money back?  BTW I can provide proof!

I See Sheryl Has NO INTELLIGENT Rebuttal!

When somebody hits the nail directly and squarely on the head, the typical response of the whiners is "you must work for them" or some variation.  This is because they don't have the capability of offering a point-by-point rebuttal and/or they don't have the maturity to say, "Thank you for enlightening me" or "Yes, I see I was wrong".  So join the club Sheryl.  There's plenty of others here who do the same!

You got me...

Yea you figured me out.  I am not just a consumer who has decades of experience using a bank account.  I am not just someone who takes responsibility for my actions and knows to not spend more money than I have available.  I am actually an employee of this bank.

While I can't give my exact contact information on a Public web site.  I do hope you will fax your account to me so that I can help you in your situation.  To find my information you can go into your local branch and ask them to fax it to Robert346842 in the UOI Division.  Now, I do expect them to tell you that there is no such division because that is what they are trained to do to keep my division secret.  So if they tell you that, just tell them to go to Section three of the Orange corporate guide to find my number and you have Delta Authorization from the source.

Oh..and when you ask you must also be standing on your head and singing I'm a little tea pot.  A bit over the top...yea probably.

Wow! You sure know alot about banks and how they work. Maybe I sould have gone to your office at BB&T instead of the very helpful ladies at my local branch. Which bank do you work at? I will be happy to fax you a copy of my account if you send me your info. BTW: What does it profit a man(or woman) to gain the whole world and lose his own soul?!

Sheryl,

In order for the banks to stay afloat they must deceive and manipulate as many customers as possible, in my opinion. That is why millions of Americans are receiving overdraft fees. It appears that the majority of the banking system in the USA is corrupt. That is precisely why there was a meltdown of the banking system in September of 2008. You can 'Google' this- FRONTLINE: INSIDE THE MELTDOWN, and watch that documentary on the web for proof.

Good luck to you, and make sure to spread your Ripoff Report all over the web at sites like Twitter and Facebook!

There is no mystery.

The reasons you are getting these overdraft fees is because YOU do not manage YOUR account and end up spending more than you have available.  Think about it..this is your 2nd bank you had the same "problem", and surprise surprise no one could help you with that one either.  Now, a "normal" person would think "Umm..this happened at 2 different banks could it be something I am doing?".  Because this may come as a shock to you but if you go to a third bank you can expect the exact same thing to happen unless you change your ways.

So what did you do(well not do)?.  You are relying on On-Line/ATM/Phone banking for your balance and yes that is not accurate.  It has no way of knowing what you have spent until the merchant submits the debit.  With some merchants it could be 2-3 days, and if you have written a check it may be several days before it shows up at the bank.  This is why the truly accurate method is to keep a WRITTEN register.  That is every time you make a purchase you write it down and deduct it from your available balance, and NEVER spend more than you show available.

Next, you appear to be attempting to "float" funds.  That is spend money you have before it is actually available to you.  Again..this is a recipe for disaster.  You should NEVER spend money until it is truly available.

If you do not have a register or do not know how to use one, you can search the Internet or even go into the bank and ask them.  They not only will be glad to give you a register..they will tell you how to use it because believe this or not they don't like assessing the fees as much as you don't like getting them.  If you follow this simple formula you will find an amazing thing happening..these "mysterious" fees will just disappear.

Oh and as mentioned this is how every bank is..as you have already found out.
