I attempted to get CenturyLink service on 5/11/2012.  I called around 6:30 PM and spoke with Sean who told me I was eligible for PrismTV and service through CenturyLink. He told me he would find me a great deal and walked me through the process including a credit check, which he explained was normal for the process.

After the credit check came back clear and he wanted to set up service, he ended up not being able to complete the order because it was Friday and promised to call me back on the 14th which was a Monday.  He called back and spent 2 hours on the phone completing my order which was done about 12:30 PM.  He offered a TV/phone package for Prism TV that totaled around $78.

Two hours later I received a phone call from CenturyLink's 800 number stating they could not perform service and didn't explain why.  I called back to get an answer and was told that my home was out of range.  I was asked why this wasn't told to me beforehand and the only response was "well our techs determine this, we don't".   So I said, WHY RUN MY CREDIT IF YOU CANT PROVIDE SERVICES PROMISED?!?  They told me that you must run credit first and submit an order THEN you may qualify for service but there is no guarantee.  From there I was livid.  He made me wait 3 days when I could've gone with Cox Communications, then he didn't even give me what was promised.  I got a call back on 5/15 from CenturyLink about the issue.  I explained to the lady what happened prior to today.  She proceeds to tell me that "it sounds crazy, they must not have been paying attention"

She walks me through the order AGAIN. Another 45 minutes PROMISING me that she will get me the service.  We finished at 2:35 PM, and I got a call from Century Link personnel Anna tech ID 5180856. She was absolutely so rude.  She said they couldn't perform the service and gave the same reason. I asked to speak to a supervisor which she rudely responded "oh well I am the supervisor".  I asked why she had me in the system and why they called me AGAIN promising the service.  She said "well it takes more than 12 hours to take you out of the system sir".  It was 24 hours and if they knew the address wasn't working, WHY NOT PUT A RUSH ON IT.

Sidenote.  Less than 5 minutes in WALKING distance from me, CentruyLink provides PRISMTV!  When I asked her why that was, she continued to say "they go off a different receiver than you".  I said, "homes RIGHT BEHIND ME!?" she just responded "yes".  She was so unapologetic and snippy! The worst person I dealt with out of all of them.

CenturyLink is a shady company.  They have horrible customer service. Inbetween the fiasco with Sean I have spoken with 3 people, all of whom have been ignorant and uninformed.  They promise what they can't provide just to make their quotas set for the call centers.  The tech center is completely rude and they are not competent enough to properly explain why service isn't provided even after being promised.  They don't tell you that after they run your credit and put an INQUIRY on it that you MAY or MAY NOT qualify.  They're scammers.  Very shady people.

Do Not Get PrismTV!!!

AUTHOR: The Truth Hurts - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, July 01, 2012

The fact that a house 5 minutes away from you has it, and you can't get it, is completely irrelevant.  All wireline services have distance limitations.  My next door neighbor can get DSL, I can't.   Having worked in the business I understand that.  As far as the running your credit, that I guess is unfortunate, but not sure if that is outside of the normal operating procedures of most phone companies.  Running your credit once is not going to turn your credit score or anyone's world upside down.   If it is not within normal operating procedures, sure it's annoying, but..

I have a suspicion I know what happened.  You probably can check availability in one system, and your address or zip code showed as available.  They do a final check in another system that only engineers have access to, and they found it was not available, so they immediately contacted you.  With plenty of experience in the industry, that is probably what happened.  The only other possibility is the person who took your order completely botched it.  And this is not fraud, because their commission would be eliminated immediately the second your order was cancelled.

As far as the customer service aspect, well, that may be subjective.  I suspect by the title of your posting, you may have been a bit hostile when you called in, and you do tend to get out what you put in.  Just a guess, I don't know you.

Not sure if this helps at all, but before we start the lynch mob, just a little dose of telecom reality.

Best,
