Cancelled my membership on 7/9. You have to tell them why you are leaving their service. Then I went onto the web site the next day to see if they had cancelled my access, which they had. I got my credit card statement today and low and behold they charged me another months subscription on 7/10! The SAME day they cancelled my access. I've sent several emails and they keep saying they have no record of my cancellation.....isn't that funny! How did my access get cancelled then? Here is the last email I got from them:

Feel free everyone to write to Christi and tell her what a crock this all is and what crooks they are. I've turned them into the BBB and we'll see what comes of it.

I received the following email response after I let them know I was contacting the BBB and adding my experience to Internet web sites:
Thank you for contacting Ancestry regarding your request for a refund on your account.
I have contacted a supervisor and we have made an exception and canceled your account immediately and issued a refund in the amount of $34.95. Please allow 5 business days for the refund to post back to the account that was billed. You will continue to have access to your account as a registered guest. This means you can still log in and take advantage of the free resources. Currently the 1940 census is one of the free databases.
While I take offense to their insinuation that I lied about cancelling my membership, I'm glad they decided to refund their error.
I still find it offensive that they treat people like we are a bunch of idiots that do not keep records AND they think they can treat people with such disrespect in order to make a quick buck.
