My brakes were squealing and I needed to leave for a trip on the following Monday, so I take my 2000 Honda Accord to Just Brakes because they are open on Saturday.

The story is the same after that. They call me in to my disassembled car, tell me the calipers (all four) are putting too much pressure on the brakes and this will cause the brake fluid to boil and ruin my brakes. Also I need two new rotors and two turned. That is all extra charges. I need $607.00 worth of work. I believed them and had the work done.

Then as I tell friends and family how bad my brake system was, they begin telling me no, I am getting scammed. I look up Just Brake complaints on the internet and Oh My Goodness....the same story if everywhere. And then I find out the brake fluid won't boil....

What a $600.00 lesson. How does a company stay in business with so many complaints and actions against them. I will stay with a local neighborhood mechanic, Monday thru Friday.

Thank you, Joe

I want to say thanks to Joe for the comments and support he gives to the public that has been ripped off by Just Brakes and reporting it here.

In response to Lead Tech, I did not want the warranty from Just Brakes and will never take my car to a Just Brakes for anything. They already charged for work I did not need and then charged me for work they did not do, why would I go back for more service like that? I tell everyone my experience with JB and tell them to check out this site before having brake service.

The reason?

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 07, 2008

The reason I would speak badly about another repair shop is that you are not a repair shop, you are a bunch of theives that advertise real low prices to get people in and then WHAM!!!! I worked for a very large company like yours (speedy muffler) which was much bigger then yours actually and found it disgusting how they advertised low prices knowing that you were not going to do the job for that price. I call that deception. We were supposed to sell things that were not needed just to get the tickets higher. Thats called theivery. In turn I left and opened my own honest shop and have done very well with my principals based on honesty and integrity. That would be two words that can not be associated with your company. You can defend your company all you want, but at the end of the day when your not lying on this board you know im right.

Yes I work on cars 5 days a week 10 hours a day, I respond to these on my own time. I do not understand why you want to talk bad about another company in this industry, but you are obviously not very well informed about brakes.

I bet you just sit here and wait to see something written about a company that does not even do business in your state, have you looked up any of our competition to see how many complaints they have.

I will stand behind the company I work for because I know that I can tell the truth about the store I work in. As with any business there will be people who are not happy about spending money, but since the brakes are the most important safety feature on any vehicle I will stand behind this company or any other that I might work for in the future.

Should have gone back to Just Brakes

AUTHOR: Jb Lead Tech - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 18, 2008

If you began having problems with your car a couple of months after Just Brakes fixed it, you SHOULD have gone back. The main reason I say this is because if your brake system was completly repaired, which it sounds like it was, then you have voided your warranty by letting someone else work on the brakes.

You could have even taken it to one of the other stores in the Austin area and had them look at it and see if they could have fixed your problems, there are a couple of other Just Brakes located in North Austin, and any one of them would have been more then happy to fix any problems you were having.

Had to have my brakes fixed after Just Brakes worked on them.

AUTHOR: Elle - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 07, 2008

Finally getting back to Rip off reports.

A few months after I had taken my car to Just Brakes, I began having problems again. I took my car to an independent mechanic. One rotor had been turned below specifications and had to be replaced and one was missing four screws to hold it in place. So I spent more money to repair Just Brakes repair job.

Family wanted me to go back to Just Brakes and there is NO way I will ever go to Just Brakes again. I tell every one to check out Rip off reports for Just Brakes before going there.

Would the employee like to respond to me again?

Response to Just Brake Employee

AUTHOR: Elle - (U.S.A.)

I find it interesting that you monitor Rip off Report website Speaks volumes

I am glad you responded to me; let me give you some more information regarding my 2000 Honda Accord visit with Mike and Jeremy at Just Brakes.

Mike tells me he has found my problem; the calipers were the wrong size and they grab too tight, causing my brakes to wear unevenly. I do find it amazing in the seven years I have owned that car with Honda putting on the wrong size calipers, causing uneven wear, causing my brake fluid to heat up, never having any other mechanic working on my brakes comment on the calipers being the wrong size, that the brake fluid did not boil over and ruin my brakes!!! For seven years! How long does it take to get enough condensation in the brake fluid to cause that to happen?

And then to top it off, they do not need to REPLACE the calipers just rebuild them, So let me ask since I didnt think of that while I was scared about my brakes boiling, ARE THEY STILL THE WRONG SIZE??? They are only rebuilt. Will I continue to have this problem??

Do you also monitor all the Better Business Bureaus website, Consumer Affairs Reports website, and Pissed Offs website? I noticed they have a lot of Just Brake complaints; you must stay busy doing that. Does Just Brakes pay you to respond or is this on your own time? Just curious.

Research and educate

AUTHOR: Chvycrazy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 18, 2007

The 99.88 deal INCLUDES: replacing pads and shoes, machining rotors and drums, packing bearing adjusting the brake system and INSPECTING the BALANCE of your brake system for any other problems. I apologize to you if you think you were treated rudely by anyone here. I myself am a shop foreman at just brakes, and we were not trained to be like that. I have over 11 years of automotive experience. I have inspected and worked on over 1000 brakes since I have been here at Just Brakes. Brake fluid DOES actually have a "boiling point".
Phrases found in a website:

"NHTSA did a survey and found that the brake fluid in 20% of 1,720 vehicles sampled contained 5% or more water!

As the concentration of moisture increases, it causes a sharp drop in the fluid's boiling temperature. Brand new DOT 3 brake fluid must have a dry (no moisture) boiling point of at least 401 degrees F, and a wet (moisture-saturated) boiling point of no less than 284 degrees. Most new DOT 3 fluids exceed these requirements and have a dry boiling point that ranges from 460 degrees up to over 500 degrees.

Only one percent water in the fluid can lower the boiling point of a typical DOT 3 fluid to 369 degrees. Two percent water can push the boiling point down to around 320 degrees, and three percent will take it all the way down to 293 degrees, which is getting dangerously close to the minimum DOT and OEM requirements."

I hope I have not sounded rude. I just think that MOST people overlook their brakes because they havent been properly educated about them. A lot of people think that brakes consist of pads or shoes. When there are hundreds of other parts that make up your entire brake system. This system has the most abuse put on it. and it is the most overlooked system. Your brake system is the most important part of your entire car, without it you would not stop when that kid runs out in front of your car, or someone cuts you off in traffic. If you would like to talk some more about this please write back.
