I took my Honda Pilot to Just Brakes in Plano, TX, on 5/18, Wed, and was told the front right axle is leaking.  I have to drive from Dallas to Houston on Fri evening so I told them to replace it for $214.  They did it and on Thur morning when my wife drove it to work it started making squealing noise after 10 mins of driving.  The noise comes and goes.   I called Just Brakes on Spring Creek in Plano and they say that cant be right. I took the car in Fri morning, they inspected it and say dont see anything and they cant hear anything and theres nothing they can do.

The intermittent noise got worse as my wife drove to work that day.  I had to rent a van to go to Houston for the weekend cause I dont trust the car at that point.  Sunday I tested the car again and it was making the noise.  Monday the noise got worse.  On Tue my wife arranged to ride with colleague and I took off to take the car in to Just Brakes in Plano.  I drove with them for a while and no noise.  I left the car there and got a call a few hours later saying they drove it and heard the noise and brought it back to the shop and raise it.

When they rev the wheel they say the noise comes from the transmission and not the axle and theres no danger so I should just keep driving it.  I had to take the car back.  On Wed my wife drove it to work and half way the noise got so bad she refuse to drive it anymore and took it to the closest Honda Dealer.  The dealer raised the car and saw one of the 3 bolts holding the axle was half sticking out due to the thread being stripped in that hole on the transmission or where ever the axle connects to.  My wife had to rent a car to go to work.

I called Just Brakes in Plano and was told Honda is lying.  I called their corporate complaint number and was connected to Bob Marshall.  This was around 10am.  I told Bob about what happened.  At first Bob said there arent any bolts. Then I told him his technician admits there are bolts just that they installed it properly.  Then Bob said he has to consult with the technician in Plano and other expert.  But Bob said he knows based on his experience that the car is safe, this is from the guy who argues there arent any bolts.

He told me since the car is safe they wont pay for the rental and my wife should keep driving it while they investigate.  I told him to please get back to me and he promise hell call me in an hour.   Bob called me hours late after 4pm and told me he cant talk to the Plano Technician cause the guy was in a meeting all day.  Ive never heard of a car technician in whole day meeting and cant talk to corporate.

He told me I should take the car from Honda and drive it home and hell let me know early the next morning what to do.  I ask him to send a guy to Honda to take a look at the problem.  He say no.  I asked what would be the best possible outcome.  He say if its there problem they would fix it at one of their locations.  The next day, Thurs, my wife drove the rental car again.  I waited till around 11am and lost all trust in Just Brakes at that point and told Honda to fix the car cause I had work, pay for the rental car for my wife and cant wait around anymore.

Bob left a message shortly after and told me they would send the guy to Honda.  I got the message at the end of the day and left a message for him saying the car is probably fixed by then and ask for next step.  I have not heard back from him since.  The repair cost me $735.15.  Between that and the van rental to Houston and the 2 days of car rental Im out around $900.  Not to mention Honda told me if the retreading of the bolt hole failed the replacement part wouldve cost $6000+.  I was worried all night.

Loose Axle Bolt?

AUTHOR: dtech3 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, January 27, 2012
From what I can see in the picture, that bolt is no where near the axle shaft. It appears to be a bolt that attaches the engine or transmission mount (the cylinder the the right of the bolt).

I have been an ASE certified technician for 10 years. Traditionally, the axle spindle nut is removed from outside the hub where the rotor is connected. The axle is then pulled out from the transmission. There are no attachment bolts other than the outer spindle nut.

Here is my story about just brakes

AUTHOR: Emm2121 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 19, 2011
This is the letter I sent them they just want to rip off the consumer

To Whom it May Concern

My name is Emmett Bryant, I have a few issues that I would like to talk about and give your organization a chance to resolve before I seek another resolution being legal! On 02/20/2010 I went to your Northglenn #59 shop in Colorado and had my brakes inspected and was told at the time that I needed a complete brake job done at the time. I was quoted a price and agreed to it at that time. I told the shop manager that I was relocating to California he told me that I wouldn't make it without the brakes being done. I asked him if you had any shops in California in case there was any problems he said no but that you have a partnership with some shops in California. I now know this was a lie. I drove out to California and started having problems with my trucks brakes I called your contact line and was told that there was nothing in California and that the nearest shop was in Las Vegas I was taken a back by that. I decided to drive back to Colorado and when I went to the Northglenn shop I was told that my Caliper pistons needed to be changed out and that when I first brought my truck in back in February they noticed that they were getting worn but that they legally couldn't recommend replacement at that time. I find that totally unacceptable. When I was there the manager and head tech went into the office and started laughing like I was some sort of fool or something in that manner. I felt insulted but also felt like I needed to have the work done in order to get back to California.

So I agreed to have the work done again at which time the brake pads were worn down and they charged me for that
also. Well on 12/18/2010 I went to get new tires and it was found out that the rear brakes were worn and that the rotors were not new and were very bad. Now take that I went to your shop for new brakes including brand new rotors and paid very much for them, the front rotors and pads were new not the rear ones it is a shame that I was taken advantage of it isn't right and I am more than a little upset about this but I want to give you the opportunity to make things right. I am sure all of your shops are not ran like this one and that you are a responsible company please prove me correct. My first visit to your Northglenn shop on 02/20/2010 cost me $767.06 for what was to be a complete brake job with new rotors all around and disc pads and materials The second 5 months later cost me $404.97 for caliper pistons and calipers and disc pads. For a total of $1172.03 for the combined work.

Today I spent $379.90 for new rotors on the rear and brake pads and labor. 1I am asking that I be reimbursed $760.40
for services not rendered on 02/20/2010
1. $123 for each new rear rotor that wasn't changed out new equaling $246
2. $46 for labor
3. $42.50 for disc hardware rear
4. On invoice # 005930620
And $46 for labor for pads front and rear on 7/22/2010 services not rendered on 07/22/2010 that should have been covered And for the cost of today's repairs $379.90 for the new rear rotors and brake pads. I hope that we can resolve this problem ASAP! I have sent along with this letter a copy of the invoices.

I will purse legal action if there isn't a satisfactory solution to this problem! I am sorry that it has come down to
this, I have tried to resolve this from the start and now I am past trying to be understanding and will not go for
any stalling to resolve this matter!

I have the rotors that were taken off and statements from ford and Brake Masters that the rear rotors were never
changed like stated on the 02/20/2010 invoice. I feel that when I made them aware I was moving to California
that it didn't matter to the staff there with them thinking I would be far away and it wouldn't matter ! I am hoping
this isn't the way your company treats people across the board.

I can send you the worn rotors at your request and your cost. There is since the time I was in your shop the last
time7261 miles driven!I have also included and report that I found online about some of the practices that are
being reported about your company. I will be filing a report with the BBB and possibly with the Attorney General
in Colorado if there is not a resolution to this!

Emmett B

Don't even dicker with them. File a lawsuit and let them answer

Take out a suit on Just Brakes and let them deal with fighting it. They will probably offer a quick settlement if they know the Honda dealer will testify for you. It's worth the court fees. I wouldn't even bother using a lawyer.

About the only thing we can do is spread the word and not let this chain get away with this or take to small claims court...
