Wal-Mart charged me over $7.00 for one box of Bryers Ice Cream!

I thought my total was rather high but I did not scrutinize my receipt until I got home. This is when I realized that I was overcharged considerably for my Ice Cream.

I normally pay between $2.75 - $4.99 for Bryers Ice Cream but at the time of this particular purchase my Ice Cream cost over $7.00.

Upon checking my receipt I learned that my ice cream was listed as IMPULSE IC. The UPC number next to the item marked as IMPULSE IC was the same as the UPC number on my box of Bryers Ice Cream.

Someone at Walmart imputted the item name IMPULSE, with the letters IC, along with the UPC code for Bryers with great care.

The term used to identify this overpriced item "IMPULSE IC" is of interest as well. Some may consider Ice Cream an impulse buy, a common term used in the world of retail marketing and sales.

I feel that this was done purposly by Wal-mart. I believe that they have considered the chances they would be taking If they ripped off consumers in this mannor.

A customer might be upset but would hardly leave the comfort of their home for two extra bucks or to return melted ice-cream.

I might never have noticed the high price of my ice-cream purchase that day, and with that said, I did in deed notice. I acknowledged that Wal-Mart has effectively ripped me off for an extra $2.00 or more that day.

And that day, I choose to enjoy my overpriced Bryers ice cream, I did not return it to the store, and I vowel never return to Wal-Mart or any of its Subsidiaries again.

Wal-Mart is what's wrong with America! We should have listened!

Organized Crime?

AUTHOR: Lyle - (U.S.A.)

Maybe you just need to buy some cheaper ice cream, relax and enjoy it. I don't think they'll be many investigations over this "scandal."

If I paid....

AUTHOR: Skip - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 08, 2009

If I paid $7 for ice cream, I would be mad at myself, not the people who sold it to me. I read comments all over this website and am amazed at how many people do stupid things and want to blame someone else. By the way, you are an idiot.

Sometimes you just have to ask.

All you have to do is bring the receipt with the pricing error in and it can be corrected. Wal-mart carries thousands of items and prices are changed daily. One number entered wrong is all it takes. The cashier would have most likely fixed it if you had caught it at the register. Don't go crying that Wal-mart planned this when you haven't tried to fix it.

Wow a ring up error

AUTHOR: Aaron - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 25, 2008

Hmm let's see when I notice this happen what I do?

1. Assume it was caused by organized crime.
Nah that seems too weird.

2. Go on a website to report it.
Nah I just want my money back

3. Go back to the store with my receipt and get my money back.
We have a winner.

Seriously it was a ring up error, or you didn't read the price tag. Either go get you money back or return the Ice Cream. Either way no lose on your part.

I think half the reports on here are fake. Either that or I have too much faith in people. And trust me I have little faith in people.

I think this is going a bit far.

AUTHOR: I Am The Law - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 22, 2008

I think this is going a bit far. It could've been a legitimate inventory error on their part. Flaming them on the internet is not going to do anything. Talk to someone at the store and see if they can work something out.

How is this a ripoff?

AUTHOR: Steven8682 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 15, 2008

Wal-Mart made you an offer and you accepted. That is not a ripoff. It's a legitimate transaction. The IMPULSE IC is not some conspirator code that you cracked. There is a department in Wal-Mart nicknamed "impulse buys". It's used in virtually every retail outlet.

Wal-Mart does more than a fair amount to satisfy dissatisfied customers such as yourself. In fact, if you sat at home and ate half of your Breyer's ice cream, and suddenly felt indignant that you paid $7 for it, the store would have accepted the container with the uneaten portion (melted or not) and given you a full refund.

Lose the dramatics...

AUTHOR: Edgeman - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 12, 2008

You bought some expensive ice cream. That does not mean WalMart is engaged in organized crime (per the thread title).

Watch what you write about other entities. You may end up slandering or libeling someone with a good attorney.

Not a ripoff till.......

AUTHOR: Cat - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 12, 2008

Sorry but this is not a ripoff. Icecream prices are around 5bucks normally for the best of Bryers. You did not say what type of Bryers you bought. You took no responsibity to go to the store manager and question the price. You just gave in andpaid it. As long as people take no responsiblity to say "hey this is outrageous"! then you have no right to come here and complain and say "ripoff". That is bull! If you do not take charge and refuse to pay that price stores believe that supply and demand is increasing the price because people are paying outrageous prices for ithis product. Only when we say "No" will it stop.

You should have refused and gone somewhere else then perhaps it was a ripoff. This way just a poor purchase by you at this point. You gave in. The only ripoff is by you by giving in and paying it.

Agree totally!

AUTHOR: Debbie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 12, 2008

I wholeheartedly agree with the response above. Take some responsibility for your own actions!!! My mother taught me at a very young age to WATCH the tally as the cashier is ringing you up to make sure you're NOT getting overcharged. Matter of fact, she always went to the grocery store with one other person so she could watch the register while the other person loaded the groceries. Point taken! I can't tell you how many times I've caught errors. You nip it in the bud right there, they adjust it and move on with your life!

I'm also sick to DEATH of people whining about WalMart being the AntiChrist! Please!!! They're the largest retailer in the world, deal with it! No, I don't work there, I've never worked there and nobody in my family works there...but if I want a cheap pair of sweatpants or some laundry detergent...guess where I'm going... WALMART!!!! Price people! It's all about price! They're cheap and that's where I'm going!

If you would have taken it back to the store, they would have given your money back...so it's not a rip off. Bottom line, pay attention to what you're buying...it's nobody elses job to.

How is this a ripoff exactly?

AUTHOR: Drachenfuer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 11, 2008

How exactly is this a ripoff?

An impulse item is simply a category that most retailers use to conotate an item, usually placed near the front of the store that is usually not an item a person planned to buy when coming in but buys on an "impulse" when standing in line.

So they charge $7.00 when others typically charge less. If you are concerned enough about money to sit and write this out over $2.00 then you are concerned enough to have checked the price before purchasing it. Or even questioned the balance when the cashier told it to you.

How about this for a thought? Take some responsibility for your own actions, check a price, and if you don't agree with it then don't purchase it! Wow, what a thought.
