I have written Walmart corporate offices about this problem and the BBB in Arkansas. Both of us have been unable to get response from the company.
Walmart uses a very confusing checkout system that includes a "bagging carousel" where cashiers load your purchase into bags and spin the carousel as one bag fills to load the next. Then, as you pay you are expected to hunt for which bags have merchandise in them you have purchased, gather them and move out of the way before the cashier moves to the next customer which is very quickly. They make no attempt to help you gather your purchase, find which bags remain in the carousel that are yours and they start adding the next customer's purchase to the empty bags.
On three separate occasions I have been rushed aside as I gather my own bags and made to feel I am in the way. This has caused at least one bag of purchased merchandise to be left behind and I don't discover until I get home I am missing part of my purchase!
A search online for "Walmart bagging carousel" reveals many similar complaints from customers who left the store without their entire purchase. Some claim to have been told by associates that the stores keep a list of "left behind items" and are well aware this bagging system causes customers to leave some of their purchase in the store. Those items are then restocked and resold as rarely do customers come back looking for items thinking the store won't believe them!
While I can't confirm this system is indeed used to cause them to be able to restock items, I wrote to Walmart corporate telling them I estimate I have left a total of $20 in merchandise behind over 3-4 trips when a bag was not found before I walked away. They ignored my complaint and I heard nothing.
I then wrote the Arkansas BBB who contacted Walmart on my behalf twice. Both times Walmart did not respond to them either. In fact, the BBB reached out to me to ask if Walmart perhaps had gone around them and contacted me directly. Sadly, not the case. It seems Walmart, no matter how contacted, refuses to make this situation right with the customer.
I would like Walmart to acknowledge my complaint and compensate for my missing items.

Check online?

Why in the world would I check online to see how many pathetic people can't seem to deal with a simple checkout system.
My first hand experience was positive, it's fast and efficient and it take roughly 10 seconds to make a quick check to make sure you have everything. Pretty darn simple.
I can't believe any normal person can't seem to handle it.
Pathetic.

I have not checked on line reports. What I have is first hand experience. I have exoerienced this simple system and it seems extremely simple to me. Just take 10 seconds to check the remaining bags to make sure you have everything.
It scares me that people can't seem to handle that.

Hello,
Thank you, but have you looked onling for more about this problem? You'll find endless complaints about how Walmart is well aware that this bagging system has major flaws, that customers forget items regularly and it's so bad each store keeps a list of items left behind. These items are then resold when not claimed.
The Walmart system is designed so that merchandise is stuffed into bags and then the next customer is rung up rapidly while the first is still trying to gather their merchandise. You are made to feel as if you have to rush and get out of the way and can't tell if a few items are left in a bag you haven't spotted. You have to look through all the bags to tell where your items are.
NO OTHER RETAILER IN THE US uses this system and Walmart has been flooded with complaints, but doesn't nothing.
There is also no excuse for not responding to a customer who writes your corporate office and no excuse for not respoinding to the BBB when they reach out to you on a consumer's behalf TWICE.
Maybe you like this system. Maybe you haven't had the problem, but it is a huge one and Walmart's response has been horrid.

I do NOT work for, and I can't stand Walmart. However, I can guaranty you 100% that they are not trying to steal your meager items.
They probably think that people just may be intelligent enough to make sure they get their merchandise before they leave the counter. It takes something like, maybe, 10 to 15 seconds to check and make sure you have everything. It's a very simple and efficient system and it's embarassing to thing we have people in the US who can't seem to deal with it. Maybe you should have someone else do your shopping for you.
Silly!
