I needed to get the mead primary journal for my daughter's first day of school which walmart advertised on their website for $1.08 with an original price of $1.47. Tried to order on line and it said the store did not have any in stock. Visited the Ellenwood, GA store to see if they did have it in stock and sure enough they had at least 500 on the floor. Tried to purchase it at the store and they rang up for $2.97. Tried to speak with their rude managers and they said they would not change the price. Tried to reach out to customer relations. First they hung up the phone. When I called back and spoke with someone, they said it would take a couple days to resolve. This is ridiculous!! I spend money at walmart all the time because it is convenient and this was very distasteful. I spent over $100 in school supplies this year and I will surely return their items to get a refund and take my business elsewhere. Just look at the simple math. Advertised for $1.08. Original price was $1.47. The store is trying to sell it for $2.97. That is almost a 200% price increase because they see the item is in demand. If this is not a ripoff, what else could it be called. Theft by any other is still theft. Oh and get this, as soon as I got off the phone with customer relations they tried to say they did have it in stock and changed the price on line to match the $2.97 lie. I saved the advertising before they changed the price because I knew how deceptive they could be if caught false advertising. Honestly!!

Pricing in retail

It seems like you're under the impression that this store has jacked up prices due to demand. Walmart discounts items heavily at certain times of year (this time being back to school) to the point of losing money. Big box retailers are in the business of getting you in the door with seasonal items and making their profit from every day basics that you pick up as well. Price in store vs online does vary, but Walmarts policy states that it must be identical to the item depicted, it must be sold and shipped from Walmart.com (not third party) and it must be verified by a Walmart employee on Walmart equipment, ie no showing your own phone to revive that price. Last but not least, it must be in stock online. I think that last part is where you're item isn't matching with the policy. My last thought would be that this isn't false advertising since it's an online retailer and not an advert, local Walmarts simply offer ad match as a quicker way to get your item for the same price as online.
