Walmart tire center ruined my tire. I went to have a routine oil change. I arrived at 6:50 am for the store to open at 7am. I waited for the store the service men to open 25 minutes late. And Waited for the service man to put on his belt, shirt, and tie his shoes, before he finally came over to my car.
I was the first one in line of course, and and older gentleman pulled up beside me. He was complaining about a large nail in his tire that was not there when he had his car serviced the day before. The older man was told he had the have a new tire, it couldn't be fixed. I didn't think anything of it, until that night when I noticed my tire had a slow leak. Well guess what, a huge nail was right in the side of my tire near the tread.
I took it to another store and he said he could not explain how a nail of that size could get in the side of the tire not even near the tread. Of course it could not be fixed, I had to buy a new tire, and he told me the tires I had on had been discontinued since 2000. I just bought those tires from Walmart in 2004.
I purchased my new tires from Discount Tires, and will NEVER go back to the Walmart in Ocoee, Florida for service on my vehicle ever again.

It may have happened at Wally's

In 28 yrs of driving, i've lost a lot of tires. I've had sidewalls punctured a few times.
Having a friend of 30+ years that's a mechanic, he explained how this happens. he also said it can happen at places that do oil changes and such.
The one reason he doesn't think it would've happened at Wally's is this: Their mechanics do NOT make commission on sales or service and have nothing to gain by it. He's known a few Wallyworld mechs, they get paid the same whethers there's work or not.
As far as the tires being discontinued, that's not uncommon. Sears/Kmart do the same things. They're still good tires, just cheaper. Kind of like buying last years tennis shoes, half the price for the same thing and they're still new.
When you got those tires in 2004, did you buy the Road Hazard warranty(sp?) If you did, then they're covered by that.
