Mediacom calls themselves an ISP, and they are, in the loosest sense of the words. I have frequent and constant outages. The only time I get the speeds that are advertised is after 11pm CST, and then my connection speeds are great! The rest of the time I'm lucky to get 1/10th of the speed I PAY money for. The outages are a near constant thing, every week I have at least one day where service just randomly drops off and I get disconnected, usually its 2-3 days.
I tried to call customer service regarding these issues. The girl on the other end told me that I was receiving the speeds I paid for, 15 down 1 up. I ran a speed test and even offered to email her the screenshot that I took of the results that showed 1.2 mb/s down, and 300k up. She told me that wasn't necessary, and that the system was reporting no outages. When I insisted that I was not getting what I paid for, she told me she could have a tech out to look early next week (this was on a Thursday). I asked her what the tech would do, and she told me that the tech would check the cable connections and ensure that I had everything hooked up correctly. I assured her that I did have everything hooked up correctly, and that the issue wasn't with the equipment, it was with the horrendous speeds that I was receiving, she again told me that it was likely an issue with the router not being hooked up correctly. I asked to speak to a supervisor regarding this, and she told me that none were available, but she could have one call back.
I knew at this point that it was pointless. From having dealt with Mediacom in the past, I know that no one calls you back. I was stunned at the fact that she would essentially blame me for setting things up correctly and completely ignore the fact that I had screenshots that I had taken just minutes prior showing up/down speeds well below advertised (and paid for) speeds. I expect my ISP to have a greater than 90% uptime, because I know that sometimes things happen, but to have my internet stall and drop randomly 2-3 days a week is idiotic. I am currently looking for a new ISP, unfortunately it seems my options in central Iowa are extremely limited.

That is not the level of service we expect to provide to any of our customer. I would be happy to check further into these issues. Please email me at socialmediateam@mediacomcc.com and I will do what I can to make things right.

Yes, Mediacom is the WORST

I too have complaints with Mediacom. Lousy service, monthly fees that just suddenly go up, or channels just suddenly dropped from your service and when you inquire why, the answer is because they were introductory or were running for you to decide if you want to add that channel or channels. Nothing tells you they are doing this.
And worse still? Getting someone out to service your equipment. We've waited days and days for a tech to come out, only to be told the guy was sent off on some other more important fire to put out. Whenever this happens, I have learned to request a discount on my service.
We thought that after business hours when fewer people are using the Internet, our speed would go up. Nope! They reduce the bandwidth to save themselves $$$ at the consumers' expense!
Finally, they had to come run new cable for our service at our house. They said a guy would be out to bury the cable strung across our driveway within 14 days. No such luck. When I called after 21 days of this, I was told that the work order had been mysteriously cancelled. It's now been a month and a half and the cable is still laying over the driveway.
They don't seem to care. When I told them I wouldn't pay my bill until this was fixed, the customer service rep said "Do you want me to send your call to billing so they can cancel your service right now?"
They've got you by the... as they know you can't suddenly go without TV, phone, or Internet. BAD, bad company to deal with. I'd go back to ATT but their service was almost $300 a month, and Mediacom, for what we get, is $175.
In Europe and elsewhere I have read that Internet and other media services are about half what we pay in the states, and the Internet service is so much faster than what we can get here. WHY do we Americans have to put up with this insane capitalism?
Advertisers above have met our
strict standards for business conduct.
