2-10 HBW has happily collected my $375 annual premium each year. I reported my broken air conditioning to them aaround 4 weeks ago. The first contractor came out and misdiagnosed the problem and we spent almost $500 out-of-pocket which did not solve our problem. The second contractor came out, correctly diagnosed the problem as a clogged coil. 2-10 HBW claims this is a maintenenace issue and thus is not covered.

My A/C was installed in this house in 1969. It's certainly reasonable to expect that a 38 year-old A/C unity might require a replacement coil. Do not use this service. Though they claim that they protect you, when it comes time for them to help you, they do not. Just like any other insurance company!!!

Maintenance is critical

I don't like the Home Warranty companies either, and stopped working for them years ago. They love to use phrases like "pre-existing" and "lack of maitenance". But you should have your A/C serviced and Acid-Washed every year.

Probably more to the story....

If I am reading this right you probably got service the first time you shouldn't have anyway. Looks like you probably had to lay out more after all to get the unit professionally cleaned and maintained. Maintenance issues are not covered under most home warranties.

Les you didn't provide much information in your story, but from what I know of warranty issues, the first company that came out, even though there was a misdiagnosis, will continue to come out at no further charge to you until the repair is complete. If needed a second company will be sent for a 2nd opinion. Replacing a coil in the air conditioning system inherently comes with non covered costs including freon recovery, disposal of contaminated units, and possible duct modifications.

To give an accurate analysis of your situation you should provide more details.
