American Home Shield not covered under existing and fluctuating circumstances Houston Texas

I have had multiple dealing with this company. First years ago they were excellent, then they evidently changed their operating policies. I have had 4 well documented events in which deception is the key to their continued success.

In essence they are good for newer homes when things go out and they cannot use the guise of maintainence not being done, or not up to code. On older homes, a variety of issues exist. First, they use contractors that have bid for the business. These contractors understand the fine print of these policies and are able to upgrade the costs of repair to the homeowner. For example, last year I had an A/C problem. AHS sent out a contractor who wanted to replace the entire system rather than just the coil. The issue, essentially, eveything was old and had to come up to grade. I took the option of buying out, ie took the cash for their assessment of a replacement coil and then had another contractor do the job and save me thousands of dollars. By the way, there was no up to code issue.

We remodeled a house. An older hot water heater leaked after the remodel. Their contractor they sent stated the house d**n near needed to be replumbed due to code upgrade AND new vents in the roof needed to be upgraded. Consider now that this house just had inspections for plumbing by the City of Houston. We of course got a small check for a water heater, not near enough to pay for a new one, and of course got another contractor.

This group should be taken out. This is pathetic when it comes to middle class folks who think they are insuring their purchase and repairs will be done. This is truly a scam and although legal is not right.It is my understanding the company is owned by a bunch of attorneys who changed the policies and are now truly ripping folks off. I dont need the money from a lawsuit but would sure like to see them fined and money returned to many folks who have suffered over this.
