To add insult to injury, on June 14 ATT decided to add a "minimum charge" to your long distance phone bill - even if you canceled this service like I did months ago and don't use it at all.

This new charge shows up as "Minimum Usage Charge" of $2.00. After the Federal Universal, Carrier Cost and State & Local Communication Fees are added you end up with a total of $4.80 for a service you don't use simply because AT&T is a greedy bully and says so.

I hope the FCC does something about all these illegal charges that AT&T is forcing on their customers. A class action law suit to teach these greedy ba$tard$ a lesson would be even better - and hurt them in the pocket big time.

This is just one of the many rip-offs that AT&T is shamelessy conducting and they should be thoroughly investigated to put an end to their illegal practices once and for all.

It's just possible, that in your haste to put down others and accuse them of working for AT&T

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, October 03, 2011

that you missed the gist of Brittnie's posting.

Just to help you, here's the pertinent part:

"... I do happen to be an employee of att, i work for the southeast region (including georgia) and i happen to know loads about the minimum usage charge. U claim that you "cancelled your services" before, when in fact you didn't. in our systems we have 2 options, select NO SELECTIONS, which means you do not choose to have att as your long distance carrier. And we have another option, "domestic pay per use rate" and you happened to be on the domestic rate.

Unfortunately there was a section of the news you can use on your april thru july bills. You might want to go back and dig thru those, find print will always get you. It happened to explain that your bill price will go up in july to 2.00$ and if you used long distance it would cover thru the 2.00 and if you used anymore you would be charged accordingly....."

Looks like you selected the wrong option when you "cancelled."...I could be wrong of course as you allege I'm to stupid to comprehend what you're saying.

I have NEVER worked for AT&T among all the other companies I've been accused of working for on this forum....but if that's what you choose to believe, who am I to correct you.

I hope my "feeble" attempts at humor aren't too off-putting.

To ATT employee & others

brittnie: For your information, I spoke to three different ATT representatives and not ONE of them mentioned the option of NO SELECTION. This doesn't surprise me as you people are trained and brain-washed to not volunteer (or try to hide) information that will save the consumer money. (You yourself admits this much in your comment that "the fine print will allways get you"). This is the mantra normally exercised by monopolies such as ATT - don't help the customers, just squeeze them to death. What else is new? Yes mam, I do know what I'm talking about. If it is any consolation, your competition isn't any better. Your last comment... "and that class action lawsuit you requested...well, good luck" speaks volumes of the arrogance instilled by your company on all its employees (or maybe it's only you speaking). And no, I hope I don't talk to you on the phone some day. Wouldn't want to waste my time.

Ken Greely: You also sound like a former or present ATT employee. I didn't graduate from any law school but I just happen to have a little common sense - which you appear to lack my friend. Your attempt at humor falls way short. You don't think that what's happening to me isn't happening to countless others? Just do the math... for the sake of discussion, let's just say that only 1 million ATT customers are in the same boat I am. Let's see... if my math is correct that comes to 2 million dollars per month and 24 million $$ per year (not counting the other charges) going into ATT coffers for a "service" people DON'T WANT NOR USE. If that isn't a scam, I don't know what is. So you see, my smart friend, a class action lawsuit isn't that far-fetched after all.

coast:  Thank you for your information. It would help if you could share how you came upon those details. If they are true, my comments would make even more sense.

Bet you didn't know this

Charges on a phone bill labeled as FCC Charge for Network Access, FCC Approved Customer Line ChargeFederal Access Charge, Subscriber Line Charge, Interstate Access Charge, or Universal Service Charge are NOT taxes and the phone companies are NOT required to charge those fees. The money received by the phone companies for these services is NOT forwarded to any branch of any government.

All of the phone service providers are greedy and AT&T leads the pack.

I'm curious, what law school did you graduate from or what statutes did you research

to determine AT&T is forcing "illegal charges" on their customers?

What would your "class action" lawsuit base the suit on, specifically. I thought maybe they had just looked up your name and thought it would be cool to rip you off, personally.

Would your "class action" include the $2.80 AT&T passes along to you as required by various governmental agencies?

#3 UPDATE Employee

Minimum Usage.

It happened to explain that your bill price will go up in july to 2.00$ and if you used long distance it would cover thru the 2.00 and if you used anymore you would be charged accordingly.

Now you should know, that half of the $4.80 you complain about, is because of your country. Your federal government is required to charge you that. So maybe you should make a report over the government..that might go well. Next time you want to complain it would be cool if you could know what you're talking about. That class action lawsuit you requested...well, goodluck. Hope i talk to you on the phones some day! :)

You're missing the point , my friend. This has nothing to do with the fees but rather the bully tactics of AT&T to FORCE customers to pay for services they neither use nor want.

You see, I already have long distance service on my cell phone package (also with AT&T) but hey, a little double-dipping never hurt anyone, eh?  Capicci?

So when you go to the FCC to complain about the $2 minimum charge, you are going to complain about the $2.80 in taxes and fees you are paying to the various Government agencies as well right?

Oh wait..the FCC IS a Government agency, well I am sure they will be willing to listen to your concerns anyways.
