At&t the Worst of the Worst for customer service and Internet service!

Unfortunately over the past decades our family has had At&t and always ends up with problems no matter what type of service you get and 95% of the time Horrible customer service. Well when I moved back to Vandalia IL, in 2006 the only DSL service was At&t. Being past experiences with At&t I usually try to avoid them like the Plague! But in order to get high speed Internet service we had to go through At&t.

So we signed up with them and like At&t in the past, it is good for awhile, but eventually goes to crap! We have 6 Mbps speed connection. For several year now we could run multiple things with no problem. We could be running two different Nexflix accounts and even playing World of Warcraft on-line with no problem, a little glitchy but still everyone could run all those things at the same time.

Fast forward to February, where At&t's Internet services for us finally went to crap! If one person is watching Nexflix, nobody else can get on anything at all. Or if someone is playing an On-line game like World of Warcraft, no one can get on. We have called At&t multiple times and done the same exact thing they tells us to do with the router and computers, with no improvement!

I have talked to 3 different IT tech's and they all have checked my computer's and router. They ALL come to the same conclusion, it is on At&t's side. Basically they have reduced the Bandwidth, which allows them to be able to put new customers on. I have also done a lot of research on this and almost always end up with the same thing, At&t Bandwidth issue on their side Finally was the last draw with them and show how HORRIBLE their customer service really is!

We contacted them today and we explained the problem for the 6th time, he keep wanting to have us do the same stuff in the past with our router and computer that never worked before. We explain that we want to know what band with At&t had us on and wanted it put to 49, which is my understanding is the max you can get from the Internet providers side.

He keep refusing us to tell us the bandwith they were giving us and claiming that they can't do anything to increase it, but the Sure Can Do Something In Decreasing It. So we keep wanting to talk to someone who could answer our question and fix the problem. He finally got Pissy with us and purposely sent us to a Spanish Speaking operator, to make matters even worse it wasn't even the right department, it was the Billing Department! 

Apparently At&t has NOT change over the past decades! So AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!

We are no longer under contract with them since we had them since 2006.  So we past the time we had to stay with them a long time ago.  I understand where your coming from about being nice no matter how much you want to go through the phone and ring their necks! lol  I was nice to the guy and polite.  He just got upset because I refused to do anything with my router and other stuff that I did multiple times in the past.  He wouldn't answer my simple question, so I keep insisting that I speak to someone that could.  So I guess he got upset with my insistence in talking to someone else.  So he finally sent us to the wrong department on purpose, the Spanish Speaking Billing department!  

Any way we will be switching to New Wave, which is Cable Internet.  Had heard several people around here that like it and get good customer service with them as well.  I am sure that when we do leave At&t, like we have had in the past with past phones and stuff, that they will not care.  They are just to big and are only bottom line dollar oriented.  They lost caring about their customers decades ago when they got to big!

I feel your pain. In 2010 we wanted to try at&t dsl. From day one it was horrible. I did file a report on here a while ago about it but you are lucky that you could even get netflix or play WoW. My husband and I could not do either. Every 20 to 30 minutes the connection would go down. We would both be kicked off Wow or if one of us were watching Netflix it was constantly interrupted. To say the least I stayed with it for about 8 months (if I recall correctly) . Finally I went back to Comcast. I don't get disconnected at all unless its a major thunderstorm/ect. At&t tried to charge me 100 for disconnect but when I called and spoke with a CSR  he took off the charge. I asked him to look up how many times I had called in the past ?? months to see I was on the phone more than I was online. If you can get something other than DSL I would. If possible sign up then cancel your at&t dsl. Explain the reasons, they will tell you there is a cancelation fee, blah, blah. Just say ok and when you get the bill  contact them and ask them to look up how many times you were disconnected and how much you were online compared to how much you were on the phone. If you were treated rudely be sure to add that in but remember when your talking to them , always have a smile on your face , even if you wish to go through the phone and kick some booty!!! :) They are more willing to help if you are friendly. I have worked in CS so I know that just one nice person can overshadow all the jerks they have to deal with. Most call in with a rude attitude thinking the CS owe them something when its actually the company that owes them something. CSRs can help or hinder but I am sure you know that already.
