BB&T on-line banking software is not accurate and is very misleading.

The software BB&T uses on line does NOT display an ending balance. You have a Debit column and a Credit column ~ you do not have an Ending balance column. Instead you have a small window that displays Available Balance". But this window is NOT accurate.

I also have recently experienced seeing a "Posted Transaction" {which by BB&T description is a paid item} completely disappear from the posted transaction window and then 2 weeks later show up in the "Pending Transaction" window to be paid again.
Not sure how a transaction can be displayed as paid for and funds be deducted from the available balance and then reappear to be paid out again. This software screw up has just cost me $420.00 in overdraft fees. BB&T accepts no blame for this issue and refuses to work with me {their customer} to rectify this issue.

I would suggest that if you are a BB&T consumer that when you bank on line or check your account you take and save screen shots of your on line bank statements. Press Ctrl and Print Screen keys on your key board and save to a Word document with the date. It may save you $420.00.

I will be paying BB&T their overdraft fees and closing my account and they will never ever earn my business again.

worst bank tops bank of america

AUTHOR: wildfire - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 06, 2010

i have been trying to get out of this bank but every time they set me back so far i have to stay just to get things straight.  This weekend i had 400+ in my acct, spent 250 on credit card (immediate withdrawal to acct )  had aprox 800 going in mon night, well they waited did not add my new deposit or take out saturdays credit card w/d until and payroll check came thru and took that out which came thru monday pm then took out saturdays credit card purchase then added deposits...hmmm easy 175 bucks for them and they need to look up in the dictionary what "available" means. It does not mean you can have it for 35 dollars available means for immediate use, accessible, prepared. And their website then should be up to date, that is what on line banking is for.  I even went to the bank and got a print out, this was a few months ago and their printout showed dep say 1/1/2010  debit 1/4/2010 but debit went in before credit.  and printout showed deposit  no change in balance but debit automatic

Hold on one minute...this 'overdraft thing' is not all due to 'mismanagement'

I can attest to their 'posting and holding' schedule because it happened to me last week with BB&T! I had $500, i moved over $300. That should mean I had a total of $200 left in my checking account, right?

I paid my car insurance right after I moved the money over. $56 was taken from the checking account which is not a problem. I made a whopping $7 purchase at Food Lion.

Now, I should have $137 in the account? So imagine my surprise when i went to withdraw $20 from the account and my balance says it's under $50. I call up customer service, they were like 'uh, ah, i don't know.'

I go home, log on to the website and there's a $70 charge for two overdraft fees for Food Lion and My car insurance!!! I messaged them and said you made a mistake and they said not only was it accurate and that I understood their BS explanation that my account balance was actually -$191!!!!

I'm one of the many people in north carolina that lost their jobs, so this money going in is important because it's my unemployment check. I'm changing my direct deposit to another bank account I have because this is unacceptable.

Bottom line-BB&T IS charging people bogus overdraft fees when in fact the account isn't overdrawn.

And?

I have serious doubts that a truly "posted" transaction disappears and then reapears. Very likely it was an "authorization" that expired because the merchant did not submit the final debit within the given period. They then submit the final purchase so it gets "authorized" again, then is truly posted the next day. Is this inconvinenent when it happens..Yes, is it a RipOff..No. Now, if you get the monthly PRINTED statement that says it was posted, and then disappears and reappears on the next months PRINTED statement also I would say you may have something. But what you see on-line is not a statement, it is what is going on in your account in real-time.

It is your responsibility to maintain and manage your account. This includes keeping track of what you are spending. On-Line banking is a tool, but was never meant to be the sole method of account management. If you spend $50 you must deduct that $50 from your account as soon as you swipe your card or write a check. How do you do this, you use a register. Then it does not matter if it takes 1 day or 1 month to actually post to your account. You have already accounted for this by deducting the amount from your register.

You can close out this account and go to another bank, but you will see the same "complaints" from just about every other bank. If you look at the base reason(s) they are the same as yours. This is where they did not keep track of their spending and ended up overdrafting because they spent more than they had. Where if they just taken responsibility for their money and kept a register they would not have overdrafted. So if you don't change your ways, don't expect anything different to happen.

I Have A Better Suggestion

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

How about keeping a check register?

What you're looking at online is not your check register and if you're relying on it to tell you what your available balance is, then no wonder your mismanaging your money. The online tool is only for you to be able to reconcile your register for transactions you either missed, or for you to add electronic transactions that wouldn't normally appear on your register - to your register.

The bank is right - it isn't their fault you don't keep a register. The person responsible for keeping an accurate check register is you. If that check register never drops below zero, your chances of having an overdraft will drop to about zero. A bank can rearrange transactions all they want - if your register is accurate and shows a positive balance, you will never incur an overdraft.

You can close the account and move your business elsewhere, but the same thing will happen to you at the next institution.
