When One Valley Bank switched to BB&T, I began to have constant problems with overdrafts and deposits going in late. The fees were very excessive and they did not want to here why the problem was the bank and not me. My husband and I watched the checking account closely and did not use it for quite some time (we opened a new account at another bank). Suddenly the account balance started to drop quickly. An account which had no services charges and no balance requirements suddenly had them, and the bank was stealing my money a little at a time.

When I called them, they were rude and had a "too bad" attitude. I went to the bank at lunch time and closed the account immediately. I did ask the woman if other problems were occurring and she replied that they were losing accounts fast since the "change"(switch to BB&T) but that there was nothing she could do.

I continued to keep my mortgage loan with them to avoid the hassles of switching it but if I know then what I know now, I would have switched. Last Friday, I called the bank to inquire about my mortgage pay off. After numberous conversations and a call to the 1-800 line I began to worry. The employees (x3) denied that I had a mortgage loan with them and stated that all of my accounts were paid in full. I finally called another branch and demanded answers. They were able to confirm my status with no problem. But, that didn't solve the porblem.

When I bought my home I borrowed only $35,000.00. The bank knew me and I had delt with Jerri Goff in the past. I requested that a loan for the above amount be figured on a ten year loan. I left the rest up to the bank and they later called me at work and advised that they had everything ready for me to sign. Jerri advised me of my payment amount which was fine and I agreed to see her on my lunch time to sign the paperwork.

Well long story short, and not being familiar with banking practice, I assumed that I would make the payments and the loan would be paid off in ten years. No way. Today I was advised that I signed for a "balloon payment" at the end of my loan!

After paying mortgage payments for six years, I was advised that I still owe $30,600+ dollars. I remember now, Jerri telling me that I got the best interest rate and the payements were going to fit what I was interested in paying ( not her exact words, but basically what she said). Well, now that bank has soaked me for over $21000 and has only credited my loan less than $5000.00.

I would love to find out if this has happened to others and if this is common practice. Also, if anyone else has had similar problems with the "small print" that they don't tell you about. In a nut shell, at the end of my loan (10 years) I will still owe over $24,000.00 dollars on a $35,000.00 loan. You can bet that I am changing banks immediately and I will tell everyone I know today and in the future not to belief these crooks.

Everyone should learn from this:
A) don't bank with BB&T, they are the KING of ripoff
B) don't use your lunch time to hurry and sign things, take the time to read the small print, it cost me over $15,000.00 already.

BB&T's own little cheeleader! Debbie, none of us are buying your hallow words

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, August 16, 2003

Once again, to Debbie. You seem to be the BB&T cheeleader. I'm sure ENRON, TYCO, WORLDCOM, ADELPHIA and the rest of these paragons of business virtue who have fallen recently had their Cheeleaders and Attack Dogs like BB&T has you. So you work at BB&T. That statement and $2.00 will get you a cup of coffee at Denny's. Other than that, you working at BB&T means absolutely NOTHING!!! You're defending your employee. You seem so fanatical that reason and common sense seem to have eluded you. You must be one of these "Relationship Bankers" customers are told about! Debbie, if BB&T didn't have so much trouble with Customer Relations and more than a little trouble with things like NSF fees, maybe BB&T wouldn't have to come up with cute names for what usually turns out to be rude little twerps employed by this banking establishment! I've stood in lines at the groucery stores around where I live! I've stood in lines in other types of stores in this area. When I mention that I bank with BB&T, others in line and in the next line talk a lot about BB&T. Never once have I heard anything GOOD! Debbie, you believe what you want. What you do doesn't matter at all to me. But you're wrong about your bank! BB&T isn't as good or honest as you tout in your rebuttals. BB&T has cost me and my wife thousands of dollars since they bought out our existing bank! We never had a bit of trouble with them but have had one nightmare after another with BB&T! We've found out first hand that BB&T employees for the most part are rude.
So go bark at someone else and try and convince them that your employer is so great! theres several uhundred people in this area who know full well what kind of bank BB&T is.

Glad someone is happy

AUTHOR: April - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 24, 2003

Oh Debra, how wrong you are. Im on the reporters side for this one. I used to use BB&T and have switched to a more reputable bank in the last year. And any bank who charges a minimum fee for any account has a serious problem. All banks, including your BB&T has accounts to which there are NO minimum balance required. As to your being able to pay whatever-whenever, Bull! I know what BB&T pays, and yes, the Carolinas have a much lower standard of living cost, but it isnt that low. I also knew someone that worked with BB&T for numerous years and recently quit. He didnt leave because of the customers; he left because of the bank. The pay is a lower scale then that of other banks, the hours are abnormal for most banks (similar to SunTrust) in certain areas, and the home office does NOT give a rats a*s about their employees.

Maybe you did something they liked, who knows; maybe youre a good employee, who knows. But, you claim to care about the customers, etc. yet you love to insult clients for not proofreading things. Did you not read that the reporting party knew the person? Most people dont screw friends over for their own profit, at least a real friend. 9 times out of 10, companies will sell insurance, loans, etc. will rush you telling you this says that and that says this, sign here. This is how corporations take advantage of the white-collared working class.

By the way, BB&T will take your money without your knowledge or consent, why do you think we took our money out? Great, be happy with your job, but the way BB&T does business, they wont last long.

I make plenty

AUTHOR: Debra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 23, 2003

I don't know what your friend was doing, nor do I care, but if she worked for BB&T for 6 years and had to work a second job.... she was just trying to impress someone with all that she had that she really couldn't afford. I make enough to pay for a home, 2 cars, 2 children one of whom is in college... which I am paying for... a car payment, several loan payments and all of the normal bills that everyone else has. I also have better benefits than most Federal employees, so if she couldn't make it... that was her fault.

I, also, wouldn't be "pissed" off if I were too ignorant to read the terms of a loan package or, if I were too ignorant to manage my own money. I really wish that the person that thinks it is o.k. to be ignorant and and unable to handle money, can show me how that is anyone else's problem to have to solve for them.

You also might want to remember that most institutions have minimum balances on savings and checking account, before you are charged a penalty. So, you might want to check to see if your $5.00 is still available. Also, if you come to my teller window to cash a check and your account does not have enough in it to cover the amount of the check you are cashing, I will send you elsewhere to cash it. These are some things YOU might want to think about before giving your elementary financial advise to others.

just an option to help you..

AUTHOR: Tim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 22, 2003

Here is just an option keep $5 in a checking account to cash paychecks,go to the post office to pay for for loans or bills, keep what you think you will need for on hand and put the rest in savings. I know this may be out of your way but U.S.Money orders are as good as cash and if you savings starts to loose money and your not taking it out then youre gettin ripped off!

This is for the BB&T worker I don't know what you make an hour but I knew a teller that worked full time for BB&T for 6 years and she still had to have a second job so think about this if this kept up and you were not getting help with your problem and you were sure it was not you falt you would be pretty pissed off to.

Tired of being blamed

AUTHOR: Debra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 24, 2003

I am an employee of BB&T and I, for one, am really sick and tired of being blamed for the mistakes of others. BB&T is a wonderful corporation to work for and I, and my co-workers, go over and above the call of duty to help our clients. Our particular branch is #1, in the corporation, for customer service. This was not something that the corporation gave to us, our CLIENTS voted that we were the best. If the branches that you are using are not treating you with dinity and respect and they are not being helpful, call their AOM and file a complaint against the guilty employee. That is how the bad apples are weeded out of any organization. Our sole purpose for showing up to work everyday is to provide top-notch customer service to ALL of our clients.... equally. It certainly isn't because we are paid well for the abuses that are heaped on us, DAILY. BB&T doesn't have enough assets to pay any of us for that!!!

Many people do not understand loans, mortgages, CD's, IRA's and many other facets of the banking industry..... that is not our fault, you need to ask questions and demand answers before entering into ANY contract. It has been my experience that 9 out of 10 clients, that assume something is our fault, are proven to be just downright ignorant about their finances. Once we explain it to them they usually catch on, but the bottom line is,if you do not understand something ASK QUESTIONS and STOP blaming the bank and it's employees for your ignorance and mistakes.

This is not BB&T's fault

AUTHOR: Aliceson - ()

POSTED: Thursday, August 08, 2002

Rhonda,

I can not understand why you feel that your home loan problem is this banks fault.

You recieved the loan ten years ago, from the bank before it was BB&T.

Blame should be placed on your own sholders and the original loan officer. If you used a realtor they get some blame as well.

At closing you should have recieved an Amortization Schedule. This is a break down of how much your monthly payment is and how that payment is applied toward your loan and interest.

I can feel for you in having to indure rudeness and a I don't care attitude, but as for your loan... Dear you should have known what you were getting before you signed on the dotted line.
