Former Cox customer, now they're trying to charge me for unreturned equipment.
While still a customer, Cox increased rates 2x without informing me beforehand so I called to cancel my internet service. The retentions agent said he could get my rate back down if I signed up for phone service too but that I never had to use the service or anything (I don't even own a landline phone). A week or so later a box arrived from cox... I never opened it.
Just cancelled my service and saw a charge for $122 for unreturned equipment. Called to see what it was and they're saying I needed to return the box that they sent me.
1. I never asked for a box of equipment to be sent.
2. They have no proof the box arrived since I never used it
3. Nothing stated it needed to be returned.
It seems a little ridiculous to send someone something without telling them beforehand and then charge them when they didn't return it. Especially when they never mentioned anything about it needing to be returned. Not when they signed me up for the phone service and not when I cancelled.
Talked to Billing Supervisor Kayla who basically said tough luck send it back or we'll take it to collections. I've always heard terrible things about cox customer service, but never experienced it until now. You can bet that if this is not resolved I will NEVER be a cox customer again.
