I am writing this report because my computer is ruined and I can't get these people to help. A pop-up on my new Dell computer with windows 8.1 informed me that I had some malware in my computer, since I could not eliminate it myself I called the number on my computer screen. It was difficult to understand the technician very well due to his foreign accent. He took over my computer and installed some softwareand informed me that I had to pay $349.99 which informed him I could not afford so he gave me a senior discount then I was told that my emails had been hacked and were being attacked in Mexico. Individuals were using my email address for scams! After working on my computer for quite awhile they notified me that everything was corrected.
About two weeks later another pop up showed up saying my drivers were seriously out of date and to call this number to update them. Well, trying to keep my computer up to date, I called the number and spoke to a man who sounded very much like the man I had spoken to before. I gave him my information and he said not to worry he will fix everything. I thought I was dealing with the same company I was dealing with before. . .not so. He came back and said he had updated all of my drivers and. . .surprise surprise. . .for only $300 he could fix all of the multitude of problems in my computer including my hacked email address. I told him that he had just done that two weeks ago and was very surprised and put me on hold. He came back and said I wasn't on file as one of their customers. I said that the other people had said that everything was fixed and now you tell me everything isn't fixed. I told him I didn't know who to trust. He said that since I didn't trust him he was going to uninstall everything he had done and he hung up. It all happened so fast that I didn't get his name or even his company because I had thought it was the other company.
I called support@livetechnician.com and spoke to a man who suspiciously sounded exactly like the person I had just spoken to. I told him what had just happened and he had me click on some commands on my computer and said he would get back to me in about twenty minutes to make sure everything was good. Well after my computer finished doing "its thing" all but two of my personal files were lost, MicroSoft Office was no longer there, and everything previously pinned to my desktop toolbar were gone. He did call back and I told him what had happened he quickly took over my computer and installed an Office knock off called Apache which doesn't work at all as easy and MicroSoft does. The two files that were still there was because I had previously put them on my desktop as an icon and only one of them would open he said that the one that wouldn't open was because it was corrupted. I said that it had worked before and that I didn't believe it was corrupted but that it just would work with his "new" version of Office.
After unsuccessfullly trying that night to get my computer to at least respond to most of the original commands, I waited until the next morning and called them again. The computer voice said to hold and they would "try" to find a technician. I gurss the operative word is...try. No one ever came back. I hung up and waited about an hour and tried again. This time I got someone (sounded very familiar...hmmm) I told him what had happened and that I wanted either my computer back the way it was or a new computer with all the bells and whistles that mine had. He said that I should hang up and he would call me back in about twenty minutes (another very familiar phrase). It has now been over two hours and I have heard nothing.
