I got into a very bad accident in my wife's car which took several months to repair.  The body shop that our insurance sent us to used Enterprise and we were directed to this location.  Upon arrival we were notified that they only had 2 vehicles available; vehicle #1 was filthy and had animal dander all over the back seat (which my wife is allergic to), so we had to chose vehicle #2, a beat-up silver Honda Accord (which was also filthy) with a 1/2 tank of gas, ripped up floor boards, and several "dings" and scratches throughout.  Upon checking out the vehicle we did a quick walkthrough (it was raining) and pointed out these items but our rental agent (who happened to be the manager in training) kept saying that these were "minor" items that did not need to be notated on our bill.  He also did not check UNDER the vehicle for any damage as I'm sure he didnt want to get wet and neither did we.

Right then and there I should have known that something was up and insisted that they notate them anyway, but my wife and I were about to leave for our wedding/honeymoon and us being trusting people did not anticipate being ripped of in the future.  So we checked the car out with 0 items notated on the RA (which in my mind should have been atleast 4 items listed).  Also on the way from the rental location the "check Engine light came on; we called to report it/ switch vehicles but when we talked to the same gentleman at Enterprise he told us once again  "Oh don't worry about it the vehicle is fine"; being that we knew the car would be PARKED almost the entire rental period while we were out of the state/ country we took this vehicle and went about our lives.

Fast forward a little over 6 weeks my wife gets an email from the manager at the location (to our surpise) at 5:51pm that Enterprise has been trying to contact us (which is not true), and that if we didn't return the vehicle immediately that they would report the car stolen to the police. Really?  Here we are sitting patiently waing for our vehicle (which still hasn't been repaired) and driving this POS vehicle, and we get a crazy email like this? Later we found out it was a miscommunication with USAA and coverage limits which we have no problem fixing that issue, but a threatening email after no attempts to reach us was completely unneccessary; but anyways, since the email was sent at 5:51pm and the location closed at 6PM giving us NO time to drop the vehicle back off, we went and dropped the vehicle off after hours.

The next morning my wife gets a threatenning phone call from the same manager that emailed her saying that he tried to run her card for the overages AND that we had to pay our deductible for damages on the vehicle... Mind you when we dropped the car off after hours it was in the exact condition we rented it in so we immediately told the guy we were on the way up there to view these so called damages, as I remembered how lackadaisical he was checking us out and I just knew it came back to bite us for being so trusting.

We get to the location and the manager tells us we wre not allowed to see the damaged vehicle, it was already being repaired, and for us to expect a bill if we didn't pay our deductible.  He then went on to be very rude and smug to my wife and I saying "its our vehicle and we can do what we want with it".  I asked to see our final reciept, and our Rental Agreement had been altered after we signed to notate some of the items I pointed out before (I have both copys and the one I have signed does not match).  He then went on to say that "this is standard", "you have good insurance so dont worry about it", etc which just pissed my wife and I off even more... Fed up with being disrepected and given horrible customer service, we left to go contact our lawyer.

The next day we recieved a call from the body shop stating that our car was ready to be picked up, and it just so happens that it was the same body shop that was fixing Enterprise's Honda; so we went up there with our lawyer and they let us see the vehicle to inspect the so-called damage and it was a small 2 inch scratch UNDERNEATH the vehicle's front bumper which had significant rust as to which it couldve been there for months prior to our rental period... It was on a location UNDER the vehicle which was not inspected by us nor the rental agent in the rain... If the rental agent can say he got on his back to inspect the undercarriage of the car and there was no damage then the responsibility would be ours no problem... but he didn't and the Rental Agreement is not meant to cover someone's a** for not doing their job.... If it was something reasonable I wouldnt have minded, as I know things happen from our accident; ... but to rent us a substandard vehicle and then turn around and try to get this substandard vehicle repaired "on us" is not reasonable and myself and our lawyer feels the same.
