It hurts to be the victim of any scam or rip off but its even worst to read that its happened to so many others. I want to also share my experiance with Enterprise Rent A Car.

We had a very long flight to Lax and got in at 1am. We went online to figure out which rental place had the best deal for a one way to Fresno. We found a good deal with Enterprise for 52.99 right before our phone died. So we took the shuttle to try to get a car from Enterprise. We got in and went up to the desk. We told the lady what we wanted midsize oneway to Fresno. She took my boyfriends information and said all I have is a 8 passenger van or a SUV for 150.00. There is only two of us and with these gas prices we didnt need anything that big. My boyfriend told her about what we had seen online and asked why would it be available online what we want but now your telling me your system says you dont. He said well I could just book that online now. She replied with you can book it but im telling you we don't have that car available.

We decided to plug our phone back up and book it online so we could get the price we saw. Sure enough that deal was still on there. A man in a suit that worked there saw us sitting in the chairs and asked if everything was ok. He was very nice. We explained what happened and he said he will take care of us without us having to book online. He said he would let the lady know to go ahead with our request. He also said they try to upgrade because they don't have many midsize in stock. That should have been a red flag to us but we were just go tired and wanted to just get out of there.

Turns out they only take credit cards. My boyfriend only had cash. So I used my card to pay. All of a sudden everything was in my name. When they called us they called my name. We went out and the nice lady tried again to upgrade us. To our surprise there were about 300 cars of all sizes in the lot. We said no thanks and she took us to the car. It was still wet and she started it up. Looked at some things inside and told me to sign and initial here and told us have a safe trip. Major part was we were not walked around the car for any damage. We headed out the gate and were on our way to Fresno.

We return the car the next day to the Fresno airport station. We parked the car at the correct place and walk into the office. The guy goes out to the car, comes back and tells me there is damage to the car. He says there are a couple light scratches. I tell them I have never seen any damage or know how it may have gotten there. Plus this car came from Iowa. He never took us back out to the car to look at any damage. He told me to sign a statement saying that and that a damage department will look into it and get back to me. He said we shouldnt worry because there maybe be something written about it prior to us. We called him and managers at the Lax station several times with no one able to help us. They said they would talk to the other station but never called us back or return our calls.

The damage center does nothing but send you a letter asking you how you are going to pay for these damages. We are so stressed with the situation. Spend my vacation worried about these accusations and trying to contact someone who will help us with the situation. Im sure they have cameras to show no walk thru or anyone showing us damages. Not a proffesional company just scamers to me. I will not give up on this until I talk to ceo Andy Taylor. Customer loyalty is how you stay in business.

Same Old Scam

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

For as many times as they've been caught pulling this crap you would think they've gotten smarter. It's a standard Enterprise ploy to have the customer inspect cars in the dark and it's really a bonus if it's raining. Of course this makes a reasonable inspection impossible. You can bet when the car is returned they'll dry it off carefully and take it in a well lit garage for a 'real' inspection if it's dark and raining.

The reason this damage scam is so popular is that it's pure gravy profit for Enterprise. Wanna bet most of the scratches never get fixed? Maybe found again and again with other customers? See the $$$$$ ? That 'damage' money is pure profit.

If Enterprise presses you for payment contact your car insurance company and describe how the scam went down. The insurance folks are real good at sniffing out insurance fraud, which is a felony in most states. They may send an investigator to talk with the 'inspector' or other current and former employees of the location. They'll get to the bottom of it.

First of all it is part of thier job to walk me around the car. Sorry yes it was my first time renting a car and I was the sucker they got me for. It does not make it right. I was sharing my experience not complaining about every little thing. If your confused the point of the story is they are accusing me of damage to a vehicle that I did not do or have any knowledge off. Because they did not do things properly which one manager did tell me is why I am in this situation. If its 1 am and I signed something because im tired and ready to leave does not make up for the real fact that it did not happen. What would you notice in a dark parking 1am under the car? I hope it made your day to talk down on someone who had an awful experience with a company and decided to share and warn others. Have a great day!

I'm Confused Here!

If you were THAT helpless that you needed this woman to "walk you" around the car...("we were not walked around the car")...then how could you possibly drive this car or even function in society?

No, you don't just "sign here" and "initial there"!  You READ what you are signing BEFORE you sign it...that's common sense!  When you agree to pay for all damage, YOU get up and YOU walk around the car looking for PRE-EXISTING damage BEFORE you agree to sign the contract...that's common sense!

The fact that you had to use your credit card to rent this car is not unusual either.

The fact they tried to upsell you with another car is not unusual either.  That's called SALESMANSHIP.  Of course, you the potential customer can use your mouth and say "no thanks".

The fact that woman would not honor the original request, if they indeed did have 300 available cars, was however, not good customer service!

No, I don't work for them.
