My girlfriend was looking for a cheaper alternative to 10-10-220 when a family member recommended this "10-10-123" for a call to Mexico last month. Using the service has resulted in my number being given over to Americatel's telemarketers, which call my home number upwards of five times a day.

When asked, my girlfriend told me that at no time during the usage of 10-10-123 would my number would be put on a telemarketer's list and that I would be harassed via telephone on a daily basis. There were no prompts or other audible warnings that this would happen. She used the service for approximately one minute, was unable to connect and hung up never to use it again.

Here's some "Do Not Call" information at http://www.americatel.com/ES/legal/do_not_call/

"What about if I have an established business relationship with Americatel?
A: Americatel may call a consumer with whom it has an established business relationship for up to 18 months after the consumer's last purchase, delivery, or payment - even if the consumer's number is on the National Do Not Call Registry. In addition, Americatel may call a consumer for up to three months after the consumer makes an inquiry or submits an application to the company."

Note that using their service automatically makes you a "comsumer in a business relationsip." But beware...this is NOT STATED when you use their 10-10-123 long distance service nor do they refer you to any online documentation.

The rest of the information reads like some retarded doublespeak to me...

"And if a consumer has given Americatel written permission, the company may call even if the consumer's number is on the National Do Not Call Registry. Note: if a consumer asks Americatel not to call, Americatel may not call, even if there is an established business relationship. Indeed, Americatel may not call a consumer - regardless of whether the consumer's number is on the registry - if the consumer has asked to be put on Americatel's own do not call list."
