Americatel signed my telephone number to a long distance plan of theirs without my permission. They now want to charge me $28.99 for services I didn't sign up for nor knew about. I spent close to 2 hours on the customer service number for Americatel to speak to someone. Yes, close to 2 hours on hold, *actually 1 hour and 45 minutes*

I told the person that I had no need to sign up for long distance plans because I don't make long distance phone calls. She was adamant that I signed up to her company. I told her I didn't and she said she would cancel my account, but I would be responsible for this month's charges as well. What account? I never even heard of this company before. This is a piece of crap company ripping people off out of the blue. I will not pay these bastards one cent. I am reporting them to the BBB, FCC, FTC and CA Public Utiliies commission.

Americatel is owned by a company called Platinum Equity out of Beverly Hills CA I was researching these dogs today. Shame on ATT for allowing this crap to happen too.

The same happened to my father!

Wow! I just reported AT&T for the same exact reason. It is so frustrating to deal with them, they never know anything but boy do they know how to charge you on behalf of others. This incident was with my father, I wish he would have been more informed and switched companies. I have Vonage and I love them, they are crystal clear nothing is hidden! great savings too. I just read someone else's complaint with att ,but it was with another 3rd party, my father's problem is with americatel too.

Americatel also claims that I signed up for their telephone long distance plan on May 30 th 2008 (Saturday). Funny thing, on May 29 th to June 2 nd I was in Houston Texas attending a wedding. Nobody was home that weekend and nobody has access to our apartment either.
