I made an appt with mediacom to have my phone put in over 2 weeks ago. I recieved a mail verifaction stating that my appt was scheduled for the 15th of april between the hours of 8 and 12 in the morning. On the 13th of april my wife called the company to confirm the appt. She was told by the representive that our appt was set for the 15th of april to install our phone. We recieved third party verifaction on the date we made our appt. And two days ago we confirmed it again with the rep. Today on the 15th I called mediacom at 1145 and asked them if they were on there way. I was told that my appt was never set and that I had not recieved third party verifaction. I asked to speak to a manager and was put on hold for 15 minutes before I hung up and called again. This is the second time that we have scheduled with mediacom for service and was denied service because somewhere down the line somebody didn't do what they were suppose to do. I am taking this step to report because consumers need to know what they are getting invloved with when they are doing business with mediacom. I am canceling my phone service through mediacom and moving over to Vonage. Mediacom like other cable companies dont have to compete for your business so they treat you like s**t. Its one big monopoly. if there were other services that we can use for cable they wouldnt act like they don't care. As a consumer who has been let down twice with this company I have had enough. I hope this helps.

Poor service yes...but

AUTHOR: Louie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 07, 2006

Well understandably that would be poor service and a crappy situation. But a Monopoly? Let's define for a moment.

Monopoly - Exclusive control by one group of the means of producing or selling a commodity or service.

Unfortunately your switch to Vonage debunks this claim. And also the prevalence of dish services debunk the rest.

I understand companies can overprice services and generally produce bad service. What I have a problem with is misguided frustration. It is in no way a monopoly when there are competitors EVERYWHERE. You can choose Vonage, or your local telephone company. If you don't already owe a bill with them and can't get their services. That would be a "self-induced monopoly" I suppose. And as far as video services are concerned you could peruse any of the dish services available, they are competitors as well. So no; no monopoly.
