We had a car loan for only 2 months and I lost my job due to unforseen circumstances. The loan had an amount of about $6000 over and above the value of the vehicle which we used for settling a balance on our previous car and also providing extended warranty on the car we had purchased.

I called Wells Fargo Acceptance Deferrment Dept and spoke with a very nice lady and told her that I couldn't afford the repayments due to my job change but that I did have a job with a lesser salary and could I work with them to negotiate a lesser interest rate which was 18%. She told me that we could not refinance as we hadn't made 6 payments and that we could sell the car or try to find someone to take over the repayments.

My husband wanted me to call them again and see if they would accept smaller payments until the 6-months were up (at least we would be paying something). I called them again and got hold of the Collections Department and spoke with a very rude individual known as Mr. Sanders who basically was telling me that there was no way in hell that Wells Fargo Acceptance would help anyone in my position as they would have to help everyone else.

He told me they weren't a charity and was basically the most annoying character I had ever spoken with in my whole life. He told me that they wouldn't release the title on the car until the whole loan had been repaid so this meant that they would have sell the car and then we would have to pay the difference.

Eventually I spoke with his supervisor who told me that we coudl vountarily surrender the vehicle but they would put it through an auction (together with the warranty) and get what they could for it...... I believe that it will probably go for around $10,000 when it's worth at least $16,000 with the warranty and we would be stuck with a bill for $11,000.

I am trying to refinace this at the moment as we are able to make more reasonably priced car payments but we should not be forced to have Wells Fargo Acceptance sell our car in an auction and get next to nothing for it and leave us sitting with the balance. I wanted to work with them and offered them a smaller payment but they still would not bend.

I have never had such bad customer service nor have never known such poor endeavours on behalf of a large company to work with a customer who is having difficulty making payment regardless of situation. They do not even offer anything in the way of unemployment or even life insurance on their products. This should be against the law!!!!

AGAINST THE LAW?!? ARE YOU KIDDING?

AUTHOR: Chip - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 24, 2006

YOU decided to trade in your car for another one. YOU decided to finance an extended warranty. YOU signed a contract w/WFF for an agreed to monthly payment amount, interest rate, and term. YOU lose your job and want to re-do the contract? Are you high? No wonder they are so rude. I wish every time some unforseen event came up in my life -- including a lot of surgeries -- I could call my creditors and say, "You know, I can only afford to send you $200 from now on, even though the agreed to monthly payment was $400. Thanks, bye..."

It doesn't work that way. Sell the car, honor your contractual obligations and pay your debt...it's that simple...helllllllllloooooooooooo

Not really a ripoff

While I understand your frustration, this is not really a rip-off on the part of Wells Fargo. It is not their fault you lost your job and frankly you should not have bought the car unless you have enough in the bank to cover the car payments for a good 6 months in the event of unforseen circumstances.

Don't get me wrong here, I do feel for you and your situation but its not Wells Fargo's fault you did not plan ahead. They should not have to take a loss on your loan, if they do it for you they have to do it for everyone and they would cease to exist. I can't see why anyone would be expected to release the title on the car unless it is paid off - that's the only collateral they have to secure the loan.

So let's see if I follow.

You want WFA to take lower payments then what you have contracted for. All because you bought a vehicle you couldn't afford to begin with. Makes sense to me.

WFA has heard every sob story in the book. Where does WFA draw the line. You read the loan agreement. If the montly payments were so unreasonable, you probably shouldn't have bought the car. Certainly not WFA's fault that you have poor decision making skills.

I am glad that you were able to find employment. You just have to live within you current income.

Good luck.

Does this compnay have a website for payment processing?

AUTHOR: Kate - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 23, 2006

I have been trying to deal with this company for a couple of months - new car loan. I have sent in my payments via the mail and its taking them 3 weeks to process. I saw mention in one of the posts about someone paying electronically. Is there a way to find out - their customer service people have demanded I still pay by check and I am very frustrated that in this day and age they don't offer alternate solutions for payment.

Let me know if you can help. Thanks.
