Re: car reservation call center

Knowledge is power! I will share mine. Its hard to imagine a company that hires 20 to 30 people almost every month. An office building can only hold so many folks. Lets explore why this building is always empty.

1. Revolving door: When or if you are hired, you will go through a 30 day training and indoctrination period. I say indoctrination because it is almost ' cult ' like. Management smiling, but scary smiling, way too happy.
After you become aware of what is really expected of you, most will not last the first 6 mos. I didn't! I had many many years in a call center environment, and had to quit to remain sane.

2. Expectations: You must not miss a single day of training, as you will be let go if you do. Once you are on the floor taking calls, you are 'Micro Managed' like a dog in obedience training. How to speak, how
long to speak, what to say, what not to say. Why say this, why not to say that. Time micro managed down to the second. You will sign in to a program to alert when you are working, when you
are not working, on break, restroom, etc. Call center experience? Still a nuisance. Non-call center experience? You will be paranoid in a week!

3. Stats: Your performance is challenged constantly. Can you always do better? Well you had better! A TM (training manager) AKA your team leader, will monitor your calls to present a better ' Micro Managed' way
to ' help ' you on your way to a few cents more of a raise, (after 6 mos) and of course to justify his or her existance in the ' cult experience '. After booking three brands of car rental entities, you will know
just how many of each you booked, and my favorite, just how many people in each booking picked up their cars, and how many people enjoyed talking to you! Well in case this sounds so great, just
remember these and many, many, many and did I say many more micro managed stats have a direct bearing on not only your nervous system, but also how long you last!

4. Final thoughts: This was really an easy job. A college degree is useless, and any person who can hear and speak, can do this. What causes the difficulties, is the inclusion of all that I have outlined above.
If you can live and work in this environment, you will do fine. As the revolving door shows, that for most of us, and possibly for the next class of 30, and beyond, MOST PEOPLE CAN'T!

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

AUTHOR: HORRIBLE JOB - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 19, 2010

The key people targeted for this type of article are those contemplating employment at this venue.  They and they alone have the final decision to make.  Both of the rebuttle comments are valid, however, it is one thing to assess what I have written from the outside looking in, and quite another when you have ' lived ' it.  My intention is to arm the propective applicant to what is in store for them.   I initially had over 30 years in customer service and reservations, (call center experience)  and still was quite ' shocked ' at how this organization ran it's call center.  I was never micro managed that way, so again it was something that I want to alert someone before they wander into it, without the slightest bit of information.  Many folks have emailed me to thank me for the ' heads up '.  Its the revolving door, or you will do fine.  Currently the revolving door is winning.

You know..

Repeating the same thing over and over does not make it any more of a RipOff.

2. Expectations: You must not miss a single day of training, as you will be let go if you do.

- And why is that bad?  They are looking for someone who can be there everyday they are scheduled.  If someone is calling in "sick" during training just how reliable are they going to be when they actually start to work.  You seem to make it through training(or did you?) so how is it a RipOff?

Once you are on the floor taking calls, you are 'Micro Managed' like a dog in obedience training. How to speak, how long to speak, what to say, what not to say. Why say this, why not to say that. Time micro managed down to the second.

- I guess you don't read reports about how people complain that "well the employee said..", or "well one employee told me this..another told me that..".  Sounds like they wanted to make sure that the customers calling in were given the same information.

You will sign in to a program to alert when you are working, when you are not working, on break, restroom, etc.

- How dare that the business that is paying you would actually want to know when you are working.

Your performance is challenged constantly. Can you always do better?

- Of course you can, NOBODY is perfect.  If you think you are then you may want to actually take a step back into reality.

Sorry but it just sounds like you didn't want to do what they required of you for even what you called an "easy job".  There are a lot of jobs where "MOST" people can't do it.  That does not make those jobs "RipOffs".

I'm Confused

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 18, 2010

"This was REALLY an easy job". "After you become aware of what is expected of you, most will not last the first 6 mos. I didn't". Let's see. They expect you to show up for training. "Must not miss a single day of training, as you will be let go". 2 things, even in training, people are already calling in sick, not a good sign and 2, they'll miss something they'll need to know once they start working their real job. Once you are on the floor you are "micro managed"... Ok, that's simple enough. This company wants it's employees to to do and says things in a uniform manner. So each and every customer receives the same uniform service. It works for McDonalds. You will sign in to a program to alert when you are working. not working, on breaking, restroom, etc. So what? Many and most companies want to know when their employees ARE working and when they are screwing off. I'll give you two examples. My ex-sister-in-law works for a pharmaceutical company. When she married my brother back 15 years ago, she gave me around 10 envelopes and told me to drop one in the mail every other day so her company would think she was here and working. She and my brother had taken off to Europe for a 2 week Honeymoon. Nowadays, WHEREVER I go, I see employees screwing off, playing on the internet. I go to my gym(Gold's) in the morning and see the cleaning person AND the front desk person, who's suppose to be watching the front desk, in the back offices playing on the computers. Go to the VA the other day and find one of the cleaning guys in one of the back rooms, playing on the computer. He was there for a couple of hours. Every bank I go to, their employees are screwing off on the computer. The ones that monitor their computer, the employees are now surfing the net or texting on their smart phones. "Your performance is challenged". Every company I know keeps stats. "..on your way to a few cents more of a raise...". Many folks DON"T have jobs and many companies are CUTTING salaries. Been in retail for 27 years. 44 hours in 4 days. 87 hour weeks. The most I put in was 168 hours in one week. These kids today aren't worth spit. It's not good help is hard to find, it's any help is hard to find. They want it without having to work for it. Typical winney complaint.
