I bought a 40" Samsung LCD TV model LN-S4051D in Sept 2006 for $2000. It quit working in April 2009. The symptoms are that it tries to turn on, the red light flashes for a few times, then you hear it click off. It repeats this over and over but never turns on. After a quick Google search I discovered that MANY customers are experiencing the same issue with their Samsung LCD TV. I called Samsung customer support hotline last night only to learn that I was out of warranty and out of luck. They don't even have an authorized service center within 60 miles of my location.

What I found is Samsung used cheap and faulty capacitors in the power supply. Lots of people are having these fail just after the warranty period. Samsung should be proactive and offer to either send people a new circuit board or offer to repair the TV. Instead they offered me nothing. I may try to fix it myself since I'm a tech savvy person. Here's a link to one of many websites where many people have reported the same symptoms as I am with my Samsung LCD TV. http://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=62360&p=932885#p932885

SAMSUNG FAULTY PARTS

AUTHOR: Mr Green - (Canada)

POSTED: Thursday, July 30, 2009

Same thing happened to me, but Samsung has done nothing about it. All I got was passed around from person to person on the phone. Sad thing is the television has barely been used, maybe 40 hours max usage on it. Sad sad situation!

Samsung "Made it Right"

AUTHOR: Amilam - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 14, 2009

A couple weeks after posting this, I received a phone call from Samsung corporate. They verified some things with me, such as my serial number and asked me to scan and email my sales receipt. They OFFERED to give me $.50 on the dollar for what I paid for the TV. Keep in mind this was out of warranty. They said they would send a truck to my front door, pick up the non functional TV and the truck driver would hand me the check. I was skeptical, but about 30 days later I received a call from the trucking company. They showed up with a cashiers check from Samsung, and picked up the TV. The check cleared and it more than paid for my new TV as prices have plumeted since I originally purchased my broken Samsung. I feel that Samsung did right by this, and I am pleased to report it here.
