I am very upset with rent a center right now. I myself nor does my mother have an account with them but my my daughter does. And I must admit that she hasn't paid them and probably don't have any intentions to pay them.

I understand that they want their merchandise back but callin my mother everyday all day for a tv that she doesn't have is ridiculous. They call her numerous times aday and she has asked them herself to stop callin. I have asked them stop calling.

My mother is 70 and takes care of her 85 and 89 year old parents along with her ill stricted sister. I fell that rent a center should not call her everyday allday espicially after she words part time take care of elders parents and a sick sister. She does not need them callin her everyday.

This has have to stop. And they way rent a center deals is so unprofessional. I myself had to call and cuss them out. The called my daughter left her a message and told her she was too fat to hide. Now that is pathetic for a so called place of business to call and say anything like that.

Rent a center are bullies and should be ashamed for how they handle their business matters. I understand they want they property back but like my mother told them my daughter is grown she can only pass the message on.

Can someone please tell me how to stop rent a center for calling my mother everyday allday

#14 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Change your phone numbers!!!

AUTHOR: Former Employee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 26, 2008

If you really want Rent A Center to stop calling you and harrassing your mother, file a complaint, call the Legal Aid Society (1-877-LEGAL AID, 1-877-534-2524), change your numbers and your mothers numbers. It will not solve the issue, but the phone calls will cease temporarily. Make sure to contact the people who you placed on your contact list and notify them that R-A-C will not stop calling until they have given them a lead. Ask them to stop calling and if they continue to persist, call the police. R-A-C's bark is louder than it's bite. Sue the company for harassment, put a restraining order out for the people who call you. Once you do this, you can never do business with R-A-C again, nor would you ever want too. Be aware that this incident will blemish your credit report but in about two or three months time, the phone calls will stop. You may be served to show up in court for small claims court. The court system hates R-A-C. If you have already paid more than half of the amount on your merchandise, the judge will most likely drop the charges and you will be able to keep the item. BUT keep in mind that you are closing your doors to future necessities and to an even worse credit history than the one that you may aleady have.

These are several options that you can proceed with. But your best option, and I say this from experience, is to call the store and to speak to the Store Manager. Paint your story and come to arrangements with the Store Manager, not anyone else. He is the only person who you can make a deal with. Do not speak to anyone else! The only reasonable person to speak with is the Store Manager. Make arrangements with him/her personally.

Please inform your daughter to return the merchandise and to never use you as a reference again if it comes to that point.

How to get them to stop calling:

AUTHOR: Rac Collections Mgr - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 12, 2008

Very simple: give them all the phone numbers you have to contact your daughter, as well as her current address. They will not call you or your mother if they are able to contact her.

Did she give permission to be used as a reference?

AUTHOR: Pat Hall - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 12, 2008

Dan, It is this woman' daughter that won't return the TV, It is the woman' 70y/o mother they are calling. Miss Davies (the letter writer who is stuck in the middle) should tell the 70y/o grandmother to give RAC the girls phone number and address. Then file harassment charges on them if they continue to call. Even bill collectors are not allowed to continue with harassing and threatening phone calls after you have told them to stop. So why should RAC be any different? Especially to a person who was only used as a reference? Did they call this woman before they allowed the girl to rent the TV using the woman as a reference? If not, then don't call her now. She most likely didn't give her permission to be used as a reference to begin with.

How to get them to stop

AUTHOR: Dan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 10, 2008

#1. Let me say that many of the employees that are in RAC are indeed put in awkward positions. They are not really trained in credit practices because the culture is that people are "renting" not "buying". So, in their mindset if someone doesn't have the money they should just return the item until they do and then comeback and pick it up where they left off.
#2 They give out this merchandise on nothing more than someones word that they will return it. Many times the people that are listed as references are caught in the middle. The person renting says that if RAC can't reach the renter by phone directly to call these people to get messages to them.
#3 That being said, since your sister rented the merchandise, ideally the conversation should be about how to reach your sister. If you believe that your sister really has no intention of paying then just tell them that and suggest that they start legal proceedings. If that doesn't work as to speak to the "Market Manager". Explain the situation calmly. Again, the sole purpose of their call is to get your sister on the phone or into the store so they can determine her intentions.

Finally someone getting what I'm trying to say...

AUTHOR: Miss.davis - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 07, 2008

Finally someone understands what i'm saying. Yes I said she hasn't paid them and probably has no intention on paying them. But I also said that I told my daughter to give them back the tv. Eventhough I told her to give them their merchandise back I know my daughter and it's a pretty good chance that she won't give them back. And I in no way agree with her actions but I feel that it is wrong of rent a center to constantly harass my mother and I'm down for a reference and they don't call me and I'm her own mother. I understand their position but they have to understand my position as a daughter and I just don't agree with them harassing my mother who already has a thousand problems on her plate she doesn't need a thousand and one.

Rent A Center cannot afford to lose merchandise for non-payments.

AUTHOR: Wilson - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 05, 2008

I do not condone telephone harrassment, but from a business view, I understand why RAC is calling your mother. Miss Davie's daughter, the customer of RAC had written down her grandmother (70-year-old mother of Miss Davie's, ROR author) as a reference. The RAC rental agreement may or may not state relationship of reference to renter.

If the value of the television is say $200 and 100 RAC customers nationwide decide to keep the TVs and not pay, then RAC is out $20,000.

If you do not want RAC to harrass your daughter, the RAC customer, then give RAC your daughter's home and cell phone so RAC can harass her for their money.
You daughter should just return the TV.

To all those that has answered...

AUTHOR: Miss.davis - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 03, 2008

To all those who wrote I appreciate your comments but yet again. I can not make my daughter do anything she doesn't want too. She is grown and no longer lives with me. I have told her repeatedly to take rent a center their merchandise and she says she will. My mother is not a co signer. My daughter is the only one that has an agreement with rent a center. My mother was put down as a reference. And for anyone who think it is alright for rent a center to harass a 70 year old woman for a tv she doesn't have is immoral and does not have any self values. We can only tell my daughter what to do. She's grown.

It's simple

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

Her daughter put her on the credit application as a reference, so they are allowed to take any measures including contacting relatives to try and collect a debt. How about getting her to pay off what she owes, you know, personal responsibility?
