This is such BS!!!! Plain and simple. You rented something.......you need to pay up. This kind of crap is EXACTLY why these places do the things they do.....why they give people the crap they do. If everyone that rented something from them cried wolf like you are......NO one would ever be able to rent anything from anywhere ever. You need to do some serious growing up. Since you like reading the letter of the law and like to have as little responsibility as possible you should know you have to pay them back. Your complaints are irrellevant. The police reports are not related to your debt to them , they can't do anything to help you absolve you of any financial debts that are legitimate. I should know I'm hunting after someone for ripping me off even for a small amount of money. Hey, pay up or else they can and will do those things and more like obtain a judement against you if your a no show in a civil court case as well.

Highly doubtful that any employee would be stupid enough to make such comments. But, even if true you will be very hard pressed to PROVE it in court. It's basically "he said, she said". Further, it's irrelevant to the issue at hand-you lost an item that is not yours and they want the payment due them for it.

This situation is anything BUT obvious that you will prevail. Their waiver doesn't apply because there was no forced entry. You claim your brother stole it-perhaps you should sue your brother for the cost of the laptop. You are still responsible to meet the terms of the contract that you signed with them.

I don't think they would drop it. If they were to drop every "it's stolen by a family member" case, NO ONE would ever fulfill their contract with them. Simply rent the item, claim it was stolen and presto you're off the hook. It doesn't work that way.

Your sexual preference is not the issue. Your lack of payment or return of the laptop is relevant and is required to fulfill your contract.

While the name calling and sarcastic comments were not called for, the requirement for you to pay is stated in the contract. I know because I went through the same thing. As you stated in the OP, since there was no breaking & entering the liabilty waiver in the contract can not be used to void the contract. Bottom line, you still owe for the merchandise even though it's not in your possesion. Talk with the manager, they may work out a deal on payoff so that you don't have to pay the full amount of your regular payments. But by the contract, you still owe the money.
