I have been going to rent a center for over 10 years. Have paid off a lot of items. About six months ago a friend of mine needed a place to stay. I let them stay at my place for a while. My friend wanted to rent to own a stereo. He had some credit to get the stereo for couple of weeks. Due to items he had rented before I meet him. I did not see a problem in him doing this. It was time owned to him so I said I did not mind his stereo from them being in the house. When time was up on the stereo he was late giving it back. I never sign for myself to be add to the rental item. I told them I wanted no part of what he was renting. I thought they understood that. The rent a center came and got his stereo.

Ever since then my rent to own and profile has been very badly messed up!

Every time I tried to rent some thing it is on my record with them. I have moved to other states and still I have it come up on my file. Even it being a new file with a new rent a center in a new state, some how it comes up in my file. His name is wrote and big letters and I am told about the stereo that was late on it's paidment. I did not have any thing to do with that one. They don't seem to hear me or care. It is still put in there and I am watched and reports are made. I guess after I had him move out and I had moved, what ever he did wrong follows me now. Some thing he had done with there stuff they did not like long before I meet him the are after him for it. I have had lots of harassment from them and the law. I don't know how this can happen. I have never been late or done any thing to be done this way. I don't know what to say if they have problems with some thing he did. It was not me nor did I know of him when it happen. I always got every thing in my home from rent a center and now I feel I can not use them any more. I am very upset they will not remove that from my record with them. How can they do this to me a very good long time rent to own person. I have done nothing to have this done to me. How can they do this?? I have had an ex husband of many years ago. When I was with him he got lots of items from rent a center. Then I let my husband and moved on. I found out he stolen the items he rented. But that never comes up at all. You would think that would, but nothing. Which I am glad of that. If any one knows how this bad record from some one else can be removed and disappear from my files with them please let me know. There is a number that they call at the rent a center to get this information. I don't know what it is or where it comes from but it is messing every thing up for me. Soon as they get my information so I can rent an item from them, they get a message about this. I don't know how this is happening. They don't even know of the items I have paid off. All they talk about is that incident. Please some one let me in on how this happens and how can some one fix it?? They will not listen to me. I am very tried of been harassed by this.

when something like that happens it is up to the store to do bussiness with you. i was a store manager and an employee of rent a center for 10 years. the choice is up to the store manager. i had customers that had the same or similiar things happen i chose to rent to some and not to others. if you call the customer care line and make a stink they will have to rent to you.

try this

First I would call the store where the stereo was rented. Your name would only show something negative if the company charged the mercandise off. If you did not sign the agreement I would ask that store manager to remove your name and social from that account. Also if they will not do that, do not provide a social security number on your app as it is not a requirement to rent and if an employee says it as ask for the customer care hotline. Hope this helps and happy renting!

Did you sign the agreement in question? If so, you are legally responsible as much as your friend. Yes, all RAC systems are linked to identify the "skip/stolen" accounts to avoid problems. I have had several people come in to my store and try to rent after stealing merchandise halfway across the country. After typing in their info, it will show what store the item was stolen from.

Realize these databases are kept to keep scam artists from constantly hitting us time and again. I also suggest talking to the store manager, and explaining the situation. Some managers are more receptive than others. If you didn't sign the contracts, that should help plead your case.

Rough Account

AUTHOR: D - (U.S.A.)

In my opinion, there seems to be some info missing. I am assuming that when your friend rented the stereo, even though it was a seperate rental agreement, it must've been put on the same account as your name is on? That's the only way the info is linked, has to be.

The big question is, how many days past due was the stereo before it was returned to RAC? If it was more then 30 days, then you are going to have a very hard time ever renting from another RAC store. If it was less then that, then I suggest that when you go to a new RAC store and submit a rental order, you need to be up front on what happened before the new store gets a chance to learn about the situation. This should help.

I suggest that you start out renting something small with less value then to go renting something like a big-screen up front. This will give you a chance to rebuild your payment history with RAC.
